Fading by E.K. Blair

Can a guilty conscience keep wounds from healing?

Fine arts major, Candace Parker, grew up with a mother who thinks image is everything, and her daughter’s perfection will never be good enough. About to graduate college and pursue her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina, Candace decides it’s time to let go and have a little fun. But fun is short-lived when a brutal attack leaves her completely shattered.

The memories that consume and torment Candace are starting to destroy her when she meets Ryan Campbell, a successful bar owner. He feels instantly connected and tries to show her that hope is worth fighting for. But is Ryan harboring his own demons? As walls slowly begin to chip away, the secrets that are held within start to become painful burdens.

At what point do secrets become lies?

My Review:
5 Stars

I have to say WOW!! I am not sure how these authors can write scenes like that. This book wasn't fast paced, or even slow. It flowed nice and easy even though I was in a hurry to change the page.

Candace is a dance major who had 1 year left of college. She lives with her best friend Kimber. They are more like sisters really. One night Candace goes out on a date with Jack. She did it because her mom kept nagging her. That kind of date went well so they agreed to see each other again. Candace wasn't to sure if she wanted to really date Jack. There was nothing there for her with him. The last date they go on it was a date from HELL! Literally...All I can say is Karma is a Bitch. I am not going to give to much away on this part but what happened no woman deserves it NO WOMAN. That being said Candace puts her all into her dance for the end of the year. Her instructor gets on her because she believes Candace doesn't feel the dance, she only dances it. If that makes sense.

Candace fades into the dark. Her friends Jace and Mark help try and bring her back into the light. While they do their best to help her cope with being in public places with so many people she meets Ryan. Ryan is a college grad who owns a bar. He is HOT too. Candace and Ryan become friends. Candace feels safe with him, even though she thinks she shouldn't. Over the holidays they become close friends and even start to date. She meets his BIG family and everyone falls in love with her. They kiss for the first time. Awe how cute...Ryan goes slow with her never rushing into things. Over Christmas break they meet Candace's parents. They are cold hearted and only think of their name. I mean you have a daughter who has maintained her grade point in college, dances her ass off, and wants nothing more than to go to NY. I know I would be proud of my daughter. Instead her parents push her, nag her and don't see she is happy where she is. They all say things and one thing leads to another and Candace ends up walking out to never return.

As the months go by, Candace tries to do more activities that involve other people and places. When she goes to Ryan's bar she realizes this is the place where her worse nightmare took place. She freaks out and leaves. Ryan not sure what is going on. Begs Candace to let him in, and she does just not right now. There are little signs that Ryan knows who Candace is. Again not going to give to much away.

This book was great. I know a lot people can connect to the character and her situation. That being said you would think Candace would of gone to the police and not let this shadow cast over her. I can understand that she didn't want to but like her friends told her. What if he did it to others.

I will say at the end of Fading. Candace gets her man, but there were a few more bumps along the way. I also like how the author states that there is help out there. There are people to call places you can go for help. Like I said NO WOMAN DESERVES ANYTHING like what happened to Candace. NO WOMAN!! I can't wait to read about Ryan and see his story. Thank you E.K. Blair for putting this real life situation out there and making us become more aware.
