| Darius Rourke has long desired the beautiful and mysterious Marianne, seizing the opportunity to claim her when her family falls on hard times. Darius intuitively understands Marianne’s need for direction and is willing to do anything to be the one to give it to her. What he doesn't know is that submission is security for Marianne, helping her to cope with a sin from her past. The wedding night confirms his virgin bride is the passionate woman Darius always dreamed she would be, but the more entangled they become, the harder it is for Darius to play the role of ‘master,’ for ultimately it will never give him that which he wants most of all—Marianne’s love. A confrontation is due for Darius and Marianne who must both face the fears and painful secrets threatening to destroy their fragile love, their future together, and the perfect passion they both crave. My Review: 5 stars WOW I don't know where to start. I loved the whole thing. Darius's passion for Marianne, his willingness to wait, his understanding, his trickery into getting her. Darius knew he wanted Marianne from the first time he saw her, when she was young. As time went on he left their little town only to return. The moment he did his mission was to get Marianne to marry him. He did this any way he could. Marianne didn't think she deserved his love, his passion or his gifts. She kept saying she wasn't perfect for what she did. I was puzzled until she finally mentioned what happened. Talk about tears flowing. At times when Darius spoke to Marianne he was demanding and spoke to as if she was a child. I at least felt that way. He would say You know you want to tell me Marianne, your going to tell me. Now tell me what your thinking. She would tell him. But it felt weird to me. He was a dominant and she was his submissive. She craved it as much as he did. Their love making was exciting and new. I felt like I hadn't read those parts before. I loved it. I can't wait to read The Undoing of Libertine. I have read The Blackstone Affairs and I can see where this book ties into those. Thank you Raine for this lovely book.
