Review by Irene: Owned by M. Never

***Content Warning***
Owned is a dark erotic romance. Please pay close attention to the use of the words dark, erotic, and romance. It has intense sexual situations, a Master/slave relationship, mild abuse, and some violence. Reader discretion is advised.

"I like you collared, baby. I like you naked, I like you mine.”

Ellie Stevens has lusted over Kayne Roberts since he first walked into the import/export company she works for a little over a year ago. As Expo’s most important client, Ellie has always kept a safe distance from the man with the majestic blue eyes - until temptation finally gets the better of her. Impulsively, Ellie invites Kayne to one of Expo's infamous company parties her flamboyant boss is notorious for throwing. Unbeknownst to Ellie, the god in the Armani suit isn’t just the suave entrepreneur he portrays himself to be. Underneath the professional exterior is a man with a secret life, dark desires, and nefarious contacts.

In a hidden corner of a trendy New York City lounge, the spark kindling between the two of them ignites. Unable to resist the sinful attraction, Ellie agrees to leave with Kayne, believing she is finally bedding the man of her dreams. Little does she know when she walks out the door, she’s about to be Owned.

3 1/2 stars

I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.

This book was just OK for me. When I read the book description it had a pull and I was like yeah let me see about reading that book. Now I do believe I have read some dark erotica romance novels before. However after reading this I think might not.

Kayne and Ellie have a work connection. Kayne is a client at Ellie's place of employment. There is innocent flirting between them. Ellie has day dreamed of Kayne doing things to her.

One night of innocent flirting and passion turns Ellie's world up side down, inside out and leaves your mouth hanging open.
What Kayne has to do to keep Ellie safe seemed like it was an OK idea at first. He tore her down, made her submit, made her his.
This took a while to do. Ellie is so strong minded that she couldn't grasp what was going on. Jett is Kayne's right hand man. Jett knows all. Jett and Kayne kept telling Ellie "Everything isn't as it seems" could of fooled me.

I guess what I really couldn't get a hold onto was the whole master/slave concept. Yes I know there is a world out there where this actually happens. Men and woman both have this need to be a slave or a master. They have a need to be dominated. The putting a collar on someone and leading them around like an animal just wasn't for me. Ellie put up such a fight that it took every fiber in Kayne's body not to tell her the whole truth. What truth?

Well there are some really bad guys in this book. I mean they took the whole slave thing way out of context. At least this is what you hear from Jett and Kayne. Again the leash thing is really what put me off. There was some humor in this book. Ellie has a smart mouth, she learns quick though to reign it in.

There is a mystery to Kayne. You will see this towards the end of the book. Like I said before Jett and Kayne kept saying "things are not what they seem".
Once everything is out in the open Ellie wants nothing to do with Kayne. She can't stand his touch, to hear is voice. I have some questions though about Kayne. The ending could of used a little more. It did leave you hanging not in a cliffhanger kind of way. Just "wait what" kind of way. There is a 2nd book, and I wonder if you will learn more about Kayne.

M. Never resides in New York City. When she's not researching ways to tie up her characters in compromising positions, you can usually find her at the gym kicking the crap out of a punching bag, or eating at some new trendy restaurant.
She has a dependence on sushi and a fetish for boots. Fall is her favorite season.
She is surrounded by family and friends she wouldn't trade for the world and is a little in love with her readers. The more the merrier. So make sure to say hi!
