LOVING LUCAS
Lies & Leather #1
Violetta Rand
Releasing Oct 20th, 2015
Loveswept

Perfect for fans of Joanna Wylde and Monica Murphy, Violetta Rand’s explosive new Lies & Leather series kicks off with a red-hot motorcycle racer who rides hard and plays for keeps.

Twenty-one-year-old Karlie Augustine is a survivor. She’s smart and tough, but she’s in too deep with a bad boyfriend who isn’t above breaking her spirit—or her body. Luckily, help arrives in the form of a leather-clad, motorcycle-riding hunk on the right side of the law. Lucas Lafontaine is pure muscle, a Corpus Christi cop who ignites something primal deep within Karlie. And when he offers her room and board in exchange for housekeeping, she finally starts to feel safe again.

As their arrangement turns deliciously decadent, Lucas gets hooked on Karlie’s killer body and fighting spirit. He wants to heal the pain he sees behind her eyes, but to protect her he needs to keep her close, especially now that her psycho ex won’t take a hint. Even as Lucas fights his own battle for custody of his young son, he knows that what he’s found with Karlie is real—and that he’d do anything to protect the woman he wants to take to the finish line.

3.5 Star

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.
This was a new author to me and is the start of her Lies & Leather series
What happens when a knight in shining armor rescues a damsel in distress? This is the premise of Loving Lucas. Karlie Augustine is the victim of domestic violence, a college student who likes to ride motor cross. At a weekend meet she finally has enough of her abusive boyfriend Connor and after a struggle where she gets injured, she manages to escape from his clutches.   Enter, Lucas Lafontaine, an off duty cop, who also loves to ride motor cross. He rides in to save Karlie and eventually offers a solution to the predicament she is now in. In exchange for room and board all she has to do is the cooking and some housekeeping.
Karlie is a survivor of the foster care system, an orphan who only has a couple of close friends. Lucas, a divorced father of a 5 year old son, is kind and compassionate, always looking after those who are in need and has a heart of gold.
Lucas is instantly attracted to Karlie, but she has issues, not least of which is having just escaped from an abusive relationship.
I enjoyed the story however I was put off a few times by their behaviour.  I really liked Lucas but Karlie and her actions annoyed me on occasion. There is plenty of drama as Connor refuses to believe that they are over and stalks her, whilst Lucas continues to fight for custody of his son. They are not the only issues that the past raises for these two to confront and overcome together. I did feel that it was rushed in a few places which in turn, left me feeling that the issues were not really resolved. Of course that is only my opinion.
This was an interesting and enjoyable read I look forward to reading other books by Violetta Rand.

Loving Lucas is a fast paced steamy read that will have you falling in love with all that is Lucas Lafontaine.
Karlie Augustine is a twenty-one year old college student trying to free herself from an abusive relationship when she meets Lucas. There's immediate chemistry between them, but they both have a past that threatens to come tear them apart.
Lucas is a man on a mission, not only to win the girl, but to clam what's his.
Rand writes a very fast paced story line, that will keep your attention. Her characters are intriguing and have you rooting for them to find their way together, and overcome their past.
Even if that means facing things that are painful to learn. "Pain is part of recovery."
A definite solid 4 Star read !

An environmental scientist by day, Violetta Rand has been in love with writing since childhood. Struck with an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age, she wrote short stories illustrated by her best friend and sold them in her neighborhood. Rand enjoys outdoor activities, music, reading, and losing herself in the world she brings to life in the pages of her stories. The only thing she loves more than writing is her wonderful relationship with her husband.
