Reviews by Marina & Jackie: Swear on This Life by Renee Carlino

Blurb:
When a bestselling debut novel from mysterious author J.Colby becomes the literary event of the year, Emiline reads it reluctantly. As an adjunct writing instructor at UC San Diego with her own stalled literary career and a bumpy long-term relationship, Emiline isn’t thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of a young and gifted writer.

Yet from the very first page, Emiline is entranced by the story of Emerson and Jackson, two childhood best friends who fall in love and dream of a better life beyond the long dirt road that winds through their impoverished town in rural Ohio.

That’s because the novel is patterned on Emiline’s own dark and desperate childhood, which means that “J. Colby” must be Jase: the best friend and first love she hasn’t seen in over a decade. Far from being flattered that he wrote the novel from her perspective, Emiline is furious that he co-opted her painful past and took some dramatic creative liberties with the ending.

The only way she can put her mind at ease is to find and confront “J. Colby,” but is she prepared to learn the truth behind the fiction?

WOW. Where do I start??!!

Swear On The Life was…
Heartbreaking
Emotional
Beautiful
A Love story like no other!!
What got me hooked was the words that flew off the pages, I absolutely couldn’t put it down.
Emiline had a rough childhood, but what made it great was her best friend and neighbour.
This story wrecks Emi, she doesn’t want to re hash her horrid childhood. When her roommate gets her to read a novel, she realises it’s about her, seemingly written from her perspective. She is hurt and angry when she realises a certain someone wrote it. We follow the story as she reads and delve into her life. Its heartwrenching and might be difficult for some people to read.

This book is very different to any other I have read it was like reading a book within a book and although I struggled at the start, I'm so glad I kept going because it turned into a brilliant read.
What's it like to read your story in a book, well that's exactly what happens to Emiline when she reads a best seller from J.Colby.
Emiline was hooked from page one and entranced with Emerson and Jackson's story, the reason she fell in love with these characters was because this was her story it was all about her and her childhood sweetheart Jase, it was about the dream of a better life beyond the long dirt road that they lived on as children. But is this her story or is it his story .The one thing that is certain is Emiline will end looking inside herself to get the answers she needs to move on with her life.
This is a beautifully written unique book it's based in the present but you go back into the past with J.Colby's novel. I loved the characters and the style of this authors writing
Fantastic read
