EXCERPT

“I’ll tell you what, Desi Whitman. I think you’re a chicken. I think you hide behind your preconceived notions out of principle—or at least that’s what you label it, but fear is fear. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.” My hands still and my eyes meet his in the reflection of the window in front of me. “The question is, how bad do you want it? How bad do you want to see where this might go between us? A few nights of sex? A few dates? Anything. Something. When will you push yourself to think that it’s okay?”
“I already told you, I know who I am, and I know what I want out of life.”
“You did...but that’s before you met someone who changed that.”
I spin around and glare at him. He’s thinking too much into this. “Down, boy. It’s sex. One time. That’s it.”
“Two times,” he counters and lifts his eyebrows.
“Two?”
“Sweetheart, we may not have been touching, but you can’t deny we f*cked each other across this space.” He points to his house and back, but his eyes never leave mine. “You can call it semantics. You can say it didn’t happen, but I’ll fight you on that. Watching you was hotter than hell. You came for me. And next time you do, I’ll be buried in you.”
His words evoke too many things I don’t want to think about but can’t seem to avoid thinking of late.
“That’s presumptuous,” I say simply, because I have nothing else to say.
His chuckle is back and so is that look in his eye that’s part challenge, part predator. “You’re only pushing me away because you know it’s good—we’re good—and you’re afraid you’re only going to like it more.”
“Why are you here, Reznor?” I shove my hands on my hips so I don’t reach out and touch him.
I can see him question which answer he should give. The one we both know—that he wants to sleep with me again—or the underlying reason. “You didn’t show up to class again.”
“And I called Bear ahead of time and let him know that something came up. That way you knew, he knew—”
“Why not walk across the yard and tell me?”
“Because I was...” avoiding you. Wanting you. Needing to keep my distance from you.
His smile is half-cocked. “That’s what I thought.” He takes a step toward me. “You want me as much as I want you…”
“I don’t—”
He holds his finger against my lips and says, “Shhh.” Our eyes hold as every part of my body vibrates from his touch. “I’m not a patient man, Desi...except when it comes to things I think are worth it.”
“Reznor—”
“Tell Jeff you’re off the market.” My spine stiffens at his order. “Because you’re worth it.”
And then, of course, the aftereffects of Reznor Mayne hit me—the flutter, the swoon, and the sag—as a smile slides across his lips and he dips his chin before walking out the back door without looking back.

The man is infuriating.

Im not sure what to say about this rather enjoyable novella.
Desi is Emerson's best friend and when a hot man moves in next door, she has to fight her fears. He's her hot neighbor and feelings come to the surface that she has to try and extinguish.
Reznor Mayne has moved to the small town to have a break from his stressful job in SWAT. What he doesnt count on is meeting Desi. She changes things for him in a way he doesnt expect and vice versa. I loved everything about this story and although its a quick read, it packs a punch and makes the characters delve into feelings they never thought would exist.
A really good story that has you laughing and hot under the collar!!!!

Control maybe a quick read but it still packs a mighty punch don’t be fooled by the length of this book it still has enough going on to get you hooked. This is Desi and Reznor’s story and I was excited to get my hands on it, we first meet Desi in Cuffed and I was so pleased she got her own story. Desi is a girl that has a fear of relationships and commitment she has put a wall up to protect herself but what happens when she meets Reznor who seems hell bent on breaking her wall down. Reznor loves to feel the rush, it might be a business venture or in this case it’s a feisty girl named Desi and he is convinced Desi will be worth the trouble of chipping away at the wall that guards her heart so tightly.
This is a short read but it still has strong characters, intrigue, love and a HEA oh did I mention passion this novella has plenty of hot under the collar moments. We may have met Desi before but Control can certainly be read as a stand-alone, looking forward to what’s next from the very talented K.Bromberg. Great quick read.

About K Bromberg: New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love. She’s a mixture of most of her female characters: sassy, intelligent, stubborn, reserved, outgoing, driven, emotional, strong, and wears her heart on her sleeve. All of which she displays daily with her husband and three children where they live in Southern California. On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Since then she has written The Driven Series (Driven, Fueled, Crashed, Raced, Aced), the standalone Driven Novels (Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, Hard Beat, and Down Shift), and a novella (UnRaveled).
