Excerpt:

Sawyer My throat tightened and a heaviness grew in my chest like my heart didn’t know whether to beat faster or stop beating altogether. “Did you leave me all this to show me the life you could’ve had, but didn’t? Why!?” I pounded the wheel again and then again, and again and again until my vision was blurry and all I could see was the redness of my own heated rage. “You’re a fucking coward! You fucking COWARD!” I screamed to no one, pounding on the wheel until the skin across my knuckles split and blood dripped between my fingers. Strong hands bit into my biceps, yanking me from the cab. I was spun around by my shoulders and found myself face to face with Finn. “I like it when you swear,” he said, pressing close. “Finn, get off me! Get off me! Let me go!” I wailed, struggling to free myself from his grip. Kicking out my legs only to connect with the air as he evaded my every move. A growl tore from his throat. Finn picked me up and walked me to the back of the truck, setting me on the open tailgate. He pushed himself between my legs and hovered over me to keep me from leaping off. “Let me go,” I demanded, pushing at his hard chest. “I don’t have time for your broodiness right now.” Finn held my wrists together with one hand. “No, of course you don’t. You’re too busy tearing up pictures and screaming at no one.” “Let me go,” I repeated. “No,” he said between clenched teeth. “Just go! Leave me alone. Leave meeeeeee!” I wailed as I pounded against his stone chest. “You don’t want to hit me,” he warned, his eyes hardened. “Then let me go.” “Why?” He stepped in closer, unaffected by my attempt to fight against him. My inner thighs were touching his outer thighs. “Because she did!” I screamed, my eyes sprang open to find his cold blue gaze. “She could have run anywhere and taken me with her. Instead she left him but she left me too. She was a coward who couldn’t make the right decision and I love her. I love her…but I hate her. I hate her so much…so…” I was interrupted when Finn’s lips pressed against mine, momentarily rendering me stupid. I pointed my toes toward the sky to avoid my initial instinct which was to wrap my legs around him. It was so consuming that I momentarily forgot to fight him off, but I didn’t need to, he pulled his lips from mine. “Stop doing that,” I said. I pushed him off but he stayed between my legs, his hands on my bare back just under the hem of his big t-shirt I was wearing. His gaze hardened. I could see the conflict written in his lined forehead and the deep V between his eyes. I had no doubt the conflict had everything to do with me. And kissing me. “It’s your fault that I do it,” Finn said, his voice deep and smooth against my chin and then my neck. “So that’s your plan? Kiss me every time you want to shut me up?” I asked, still feeling every bit of my anger but also feeling something else. Something that sent tingles between my legs and an ache in my core. “Thank you for saving me. Really. Thank you. I appreciate it,” my voice cracked. “But you can just leave me alone now. And please, STOP kissing me.” My words a whisper. “I’m going to kiss you whenever I want to kiss you,” Finn stated as if I didn’t have a say in the matter. The early morning sunlight highlighted the beads of sweat trickling from his shoulders down his broad chest and across the valleys of his defined abs. He was standing so close that we were breathing in each other’s air. “Whenever you want to kiss me?” I laughed. “I don’t understand you. I don’t understand any of this. You’re always mad at me. Why did you save me? Why do you keep kissing me when you’re always mad at me?” “It’s when I’m pissed off at you that I want to kiss you the most,” Finn said, his voice flowing over my skin like a silky blanket. He slid me closer so I could feel the outline of his rigid erection as if he were proving a point. He lowered his lips to mine and consumed my mouth in a greedy kiss that had me shaking with need and spinning with confusion. “Do you always kiss everyone you hate?” I asked, yanking my lips from his. “Does this feel like hate to you?” he growled pushing his hard length between my legs.

At the start of the book we meet Sawyer at her mothers funeral.  Also, we learn that Sawyer has an abusive father.  But Sawyer's mom has left Sawyer a ticket out of town.  Sawyer leaves for the town of Outskirts.   Here through a series of events she meets Finn. Finn is the towns former golden boy turned recluse.

This book has a slow burn as Finn and Sawyer discover each other. The author does transport you to the small town which takes on a life of its own.  The banter with the secondary characters also helps bring the book to life.  In typical TM Frazier style this book is full of twist and turns. I wish the book would have been longer.  And I can't wait for the next one.

Release Blitz & Review by Robin: The Story Of Us by Tara Sivec

THE STORY OF US by Tara Sivec (June 11, 2017; Forever Yours eBook; $3.99)
How much can a man take before he breaks?

1,843 days. That's how long I survived in that hellhole. They tried to break me, but I resisted. And I owe it all to the memory of warm summer nights, the scent of peaches, and the one woman who loved me more than I ever deserved to be loved. Now, I'll do anything to get back to her.

Only Shelby Eubanks isn't the girl I left behind all those years ago. She's someone else, a stranger. My Shelby-my little green-eyed firecracker-would never give up her dreams, would never disappear into her mother's ambitions. But I won't give up on her. On us. I may be broken, and scarred, and not the man I used to be, but I will do whatever it takes to remind her of the story of us.

What as crazy emotional read. This is one of the best second chance romances I have read in a long while.

Eli and Shelby had a passionate young love but life and circumstance had them parting ways. Eli comes home from the Army and will stop at nothing to win over Shelby's heart.  The problem is Shelby is not as naive and innocent and is much more world weary. He does everything to remind her of their story.

These characters take a little bit to get to know, but the story is well written and an emotional rollercoaster. Absolutely worth the read!!

The Chase by Vanessa Fewings

Release Date Reveal: Jun 6th, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

A rising star in one of London's top art investigation firms, Zara Leighton's talent for seeing deep into paintings is in her blood. She's chosen to help track down Icon, an enigmatic international art thief whose heists are methodical, daring, baffling. To Zara the case is maddening—bordering on an obsession.
She finds distraction in the chiseled form of top-shelf client Tobias Wilder, a magnetic American billionaire who demands her expertise, her discretion—and her secrecy. Wilder doesn't ask questions. He gives orders. His gaze alone ignites her deepest fantasies. And his touch…
The sudden whirl of exclusive exhibitions and decadent parties that Wilder introduces her to is a potent aphrodisiac. But surrender soon becomes tinged with suspicion. Is Zara's tryst with Wilder the real thing…or just a convincing forgery?

Excerpt:

Zara, within the texture lies the truth, he’d told me as he nudged me closer to the canvas. Can you see? As I’d taken in—or at least tried with the perception of a ten-year-old—the brilliance of that French artist on that century-aged painting, I’d sensed life would never be the same. I’d known in the depths of my soul art would always be my one true love. Tonight, I’d been so fazed about coming here that I’d forgotten to wear a coat that would have offset the chill of a London autumn and the cold temperature the gallery was kept at to preserve its treasures within. Art galleries were quiet places with hushed whispers as respectful visitors paid homage to the genius of artists who’d left their indelible mark. Many of these painters had languished in poverty even after giving so much. As a child I’d always wanted to travel back in time to watch them work and tell them their talent had been worth all they’d sacrificed. My stilettos clicked along the marble uncomfortably loudly as I neared Madame Rose RĂ©camier. She’d hung in my bedroom and watched over me for years. Stepping closer, my gaze roamed over her, marveling at those pristine strokes giving Rose a stunning realism. I gave the softest sigh. The year was 1803 when Jacques Momar had captured a moment in time with this Parisian socialite and, as I trailed my fingers through my auburn locks, I recalled how I’d wanted to be her. Chestnut irises, we had that in common, but her fiery gaze reflected a life of daring—one she’d chosen to live on her terms. Madame Rose RĂ©camier had been known for her love of neoclassical fashion and her controversial interest in politics. She’d stunned Paris with her tenacity. Her reputation to enamor with her smart wit and intelligence had been expressed so beautifully as she reclined on that satin chaise lounge, her head thrown back and her gaze held firmly on the artist Monsieur Momar. In her expression there was love. As time went on I’d realized that look proved an affair had transpired between them. The kind of passion I’d only ever read about. I saw something I’d never noticed before—uncertainty—the emotion starkly vivid and painfully real. In his will my father had left Madame RĂ©camier to me. And now I was leaving her here. “She’s haunting,” Clara whispered, shaking me from my daydream. It was just like her to know I needed a few moments alone with Rose to say goodbye. It felt comforting having my best friend here. No matter how many months went by without seeing Clara, it felt like mere minutes had passed between us. She’d always come through for me, and I for her. Her diamante-crystal, halter-neck dress made her look gorgeous, as always. She had a couple of inches on me and her thick blond curls were a contrast to my long auburn hair. Her high cheekbones were a reflection of the confidence that had helped her succeed as an advertising photographer. Her voluptuousness was a contrast to my smaller curvy figure. “Rubinesque,” she’d called herself, which matched her vibrant personality, and her bright eyes and warm smile were always welcome in my world that always seemed more complicated than hers. As if sensing I needed it, she came over now to give me a hug. “She’s beautiful.” Clara squeezed me into her side. “First time I saw her I was wearing my favorite floral dress.” I rested my head on Clara’s shoulder for a moment. “Red shoes. I loved those shoes.” “Oh, Zara, this was a good decision.” “Yes. She’s meant to be here.” She paused for a moment and studied me as though careful with her words. “What about the others?” The three other paintings we’d saved that night… Flames rising from our house and licking the air with those monstrous oranges and reds; a hellish glow… The stench of toxic smoke in my clothes. My hair. My skin. My doll lost to the flames. Stubbornly, I shook my head not wanting to remember anything more about that night. “There was always this sense we were protecting Madame Rose by hiding her away.” Now it was time to step away. Let it all go. And move on. “You okay?” came Clara’s reassurance. I nodded to let her know I was. It was behind me now, all that grief of dealing with the complex issues of my father’s estate and those endless meetings with softly spoken solicitors where coffee was my only friend. And those journalists who’d begged for a scoop on what plans I had to take the Leighton family legacy into the twenty-first century. I had no real plans for anything, not really. Other than settling into my new career. Moving on felt cathartic. Clara tutted. “Dreadful thing.” Shaken back into the room, I asked, “What is?” “No one’s reckless enough to steal from a gallery. Not with all this.” She peered up at one of the discreet cameras. She was referring to that theft in Chelsea, a portrait by Henry Raeburn had been stolen from a private estate. “You’re right,” I agreed. She patted my arm. “You’ll sleep better knowing she’s here.” “You don’t think it’s connected to what happened in France, do you?” Rumors had reached the community that some of the wealthiest families in Paris had suffered at the hands of an art thief and that news had set the city’s private dealers and their customers on edge. “Let’s get some bubbly.” Clara led me back down the hallway. “You have some hobnobbing to do with these art-loving crazies.” “Thank you for being here.” “Wouldn’t miss it.” I forced myself not to look back. Making our way down the hallway we continued to admire the collection, pausing here and there until I sensed Clara’s restlessness. “That’s a nice blouse,” she said. “Gold brings out your eyes.” I tugged on my pencil skirt. “Marks and Spencer.” “I thought you were going to say some posh designer. You’re getting close to that birthday.” Which was Clara’s tactful way of saying my inheritance would kick in on the eve of my twenty-third birthday. Pride had turned my thoughts away from it but these rising costs of living in London had me rethinking that. The idea of having to decide what to do with fifteen million pounds made me nervous. That decision wouldn’t come until next year and I still had time to nudge that thought far away. A wave of guilt settled in my gut that my inheritance came from my father’s will. I spun round to face Clara. “I got the job!” “What? Why didn’t you call me?” “I wanted to tell you in person.” “Oh, darling, that’s wonderful!” “I’m officially a forensic art specialist at Huntly Pierre.” I’d landed my dream job at a high-end firm in the middle of The Strand, and I couldn’t wait to start. “Zara, that’s wonderful.” She leaped forward and hugged me. “I’m so excited.” Years of studying art and I was finally being let loose. “They know about your dad’s penchant for collecting priceless art, then?” “No, I got this on my own merit.” I lowered my brow, hoping my family name of Leighton wouldn’t follow me around forever. “Have a knack for detecting forgeries apparently.” Within the texture lies the truth. Everything Dad knew he’d taught me; an education like no other. It wasn’t only studying at the Courtauld that had given me the talent for knowing the difference between an Uccello and a Masaccio, but my education had begun when my father had instilled in me his rare insight into art before I could even walk, hoping I’d follow in his footsteps. “It’s in my blood.” She winked. “The commission you’ll make when you confirm a piece is real should be quite something. These things are worth a fortune.” “You can’t place a value on pieces like this,” I said wistfully, admiring Constant Troyon’s oil on canvas A Clump of Trees, with its soothing layers of greens and yellows. “For the first time I feel like I’m putting my knowledge to good use.” “You know what else needs to be in your blood? Booze. More specifically, champagne.” We laughed too loudly as we neared the lift. Standing back a little, I watched Clara hit the down button and the silver doors slid open. Peering inside that gaping chasm of metal, I felt my haunting phobia of lifts returning, the light inside flickered to taunt me, and my feet refused to move forward as that familiar fear swept over me. Terror spiked my veins. “Let’s take the stairs.” She raised her left foot to show off her heels. “I’ll break my neck.” “You sure?” “Zara.” She sounded baffled. “Meet you down there.” “This is why you have great legs,” her voice echoed after me. “You’re always taking the stairs.” Her laughter followed me down the stairwell. I peeled off each shoe and in stockinged feet burst through the fire escape door. I descended fast, round and round, counting the floors as I went. Breathing in the chilled air, I rekindled the feeling that what I’d done tonight was one of my better decisions. Clara was right. The security was great and the responsibility of protecting all of Dad’s other pieces would soon be lifted as they made their way here. It made me happy to think of other people getting to enjoy them too, and my feet flew down with a bounce in my step. With a shove on the security rail I pushed open the heavy fire door and went on through into the dimly lit hallway. Realizing I’d gone too far I turned to go back. The door was locked from this side. Ouch. As if right on cue my garter belt snapped off my thigh-high stocking and I hurried onward to find somewhere private to fix it. My feet carried me away from the lift and along the hallway. At the end was a door stamped with a sign: Staff Only. I went on in and saw the long mirror right in front of me. I neared it and gave myself a reassuring smile. I looked pretty tonight and was actually a little less geeky than usual, having switched out my cardigan and flat heels for my favorite gold silk blouse and black skirt and even my hair was miraculously behaving. After putting my shoes down, I eased up my hem and attempted to reattach my stocking top. Fiddly thing. My fingers slipped so I hiked my skirt higher to better work the intricate reclipping. With that accomplished, I straightened my eggshell-blue high rise panties. And then I spotted a movement across the room— I yanked my skirt down, my mouth forming words of apology but failing to say them. I bent over to scoop up my shoes and rushed toward the door, my hand reaching round to neaten my skirt. Oh no, my hem still exposed my bum. Cheeks reddening further as I grappled with the unreasonable material and sucked up my embarrassment so I could throw a wave of apology to the stranger. My gaze fixed on the living, breathing sculpture. Making it to the door, I tried to force my stare away from the strikingly beautiful specimen of a man who was looking at me with a mixture of surprise and delight. Finally exhaling, I was riveted by his sun-kissed torso with its finely chiseled abs, his black trousers low and revealing a hint of a V. An intricate tattoo on his left upper arm that vaguely reminded me of a Polynesian design, with its swirls in black ink and an image in the center. My heartbeat quickened as I searched my memory for where I knew him from. I was awestruck by this breathtaking Adonis, who was reaching for a white shirt hanging on the back of a chair. He was tall and devastatingly handsome in a rugged kind of way. Thirty, maybe? Those short, dark golden locks framing a gorgeous face, his three-day stubble marking him with a tenacious edge and that thin wry smile exuding a fierce confidence. His green irises were a startling contrast to his lightly tanned complexion; his intense, steady glare stayed on mine as he calmly pulled his arm through a sleeve and covered that tattoo before I could make out more. A gasp caught in my throat as it came to me that we’d never actually met, probably because this was Tobias William Wilder, a billionaire. He moved in the kind of refined circles one would expect from a business magnate and inventor who owned TechRule, one of the largest software companies in the world. And I’d given this playboy mogul his very own peep show. He’d popped up on my radar a year ago when I’d read an article on him in Cosmo, featuring his Los Angeles–based art gallery, The Wilder. It was an acclaimed museum that was one of the most prestigious in the world and it was also right up there on my wish list to visit. Wilder was even more dazzling in person. I’d imagined one day I might bump into him with the art world being relatively small, but never had I imagined a scenario as racy as this. Why the hell hadn’t I worn my sexy panties? “I’m looking for the stairs,” I managed. “That way.” His refined American accent felt like another blow to my reason. That alpha-maleness made him look like he’d just returned from a dangerous adventure in the Himalayas or even the jungles of Peru— Where he’d spent his days hunting in the wilderness, or naked while fishing in a fast-running stream, and then making a campfire at night with those elegant hands, and then saving his friends from beasties that attacked our campsite. His smile reached his eyes. A blush burned my cheeks. He arched an eyebrow, amused. Was he mocking me? “I was looking for a signal.” I broke my gaze to hide my lie. “For my phone. You know, WiFi.” “Try the foyer. It’s a security issue.” “I know that.” Which made no damn sense. It was impossible to think straight because someone had made the executive decision to suck out all the oxygen from the room, or so it felt. With a tug of his shirt he hid that other tattoo to the right of his lower abdomen, a Latin inscription leading to his groin immortalized in italic black ink. “Excuse the—” he gestured to his state of undress “—I’m running late.” This kind of manly perfection obviously knew just how beautiful he was, the way he blinked at me casually, the way he firmly weaved that bow tie around his collar without using a mirror and making quick work of forming that silk into a neat knot, and all the while his eyes not leaving mine. Until I dragged my gaze from his to look around the room. On a table close by to him rested a black motorcycle helmet with its tinted visor down. Leather gloves beside it. He moved with a sophisticated elegance that had me doubting I’d caught his body inked so seductively. A waft of expensive musky cologne reached me with its sensuous allure and did something crazy to my body. Trembling slightly, I shifted my gait and leaned further back against the door, spellbound. Nature might have bestowed this man with the ability to leave a trail of heartbreak in his sexy-arse wake but it had also provided me with the ability to detect danger. “You might want to put some clothes on,” I said firmly. “Well, now I’m dressed.” Yes, he was, and this was a changing room, apparently, and I’d not exactly represented a pillar of virtue. “Well that’s good.” I swallowed my pride. “Please keep it that way.” His gaze lowered to my feet. And I remembered my strappy stilettos were flirtatiously dangling from my left hand, those spiked heels hinting at a sexy side I wished I had. Intrigue marred his face, and then his expression softened again as his jade gaze returned to hold mine and he broke into a heart-stopping smile. The seductive dazzling kind that threatened to melt my panties. I left in a rush— Shaken with just how this man had affected me merely with a smile, my heart racing, I reconsidered risking the lift to take me as far away from him as possible. Embarrassment scorched my cheeks and made me glad I’d not worn a coat. Taking a second, I leaned against the wall and stared back. That alluring inked-up vision had taken my mind off the reason I was here. I felt an inexplicable need to run back in and continue to bathe in the aura of the most enigmatic man I’d ever met. Every once in a blue moon, a book will come along that just captures you into the plot and sucks you in until you are drowning in it, this is one.  The research and dedication within this novel is very apparent and I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style.

Zara is a new employee at a top investigating firm where she helps identify whether art is fake or real. Within the midst of her employment she is hired by the charming, dashing, sexy as all get out Tobias.  The tale that is woven between these two people is seductive, suspenseful and erotic.  The chemistry is off the charts and the plot is one thrill ride after another.

The way this story is written kept me on my toes and I honestly felt like I was watching a movie as this plot unfolded.  I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

RELEASE BLITZ & Review by Robin: Curveball by Mariah Dietz

Title: Curveball
Author: Mariah Dietz
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 18, 2017

Blurb

Shakespeare believed there was always humor in tragedy and tragedy in humor.

My life proved his theory as fact.

At eighteen I was a single parent moving to this small town to be with the man I loved. The one who was supposed to love and cherish me in return.

Finding out he had a wife was tragic.
Remaining in love with him in spite of her was more tragic.
My mom and best friend setting me up on a long string of blind dates was an ongoing tragedy.

Nine years later, I’ve learned to see the humor in most situations.

My mom and best friend setting me up on disastrous blind dates.
My son’s jokes.
The fire alarm going off each time I cook.

My constant bright spot always adding to the humor was my son, Hayden. But when Hayden had a life-threatening allergic reaction, the man who came to help my little boy became my own savior. His laugh, his smile, and the way his eyes lit up when he spoke to my son made him a beacon of light in both our lives.

But I wasn’t the only one who noticed him.
When I began having feelings for the man my best and only friend had fallen for, I knew following my heart would once again lead to a fresh round of heartbreak.

Love led me to this town.
Lies kept me there.

Would history repeat itself?

Or had life just thrown me another Curveball?

Excerpt

“I don’t watch TV at night…” Her voice drifts off, and I know it’s because she realizes I’m going to ask why.

And I do.

“You're going to laugh.”

“Probably.”

“It's because I can't hear things.”

“What kinds of things are you trying to hear?”

“I don't know. Strange noises and things…”

“Strange noises?”

“Do I need to spell it out for you?” She’s trying to sound annoyed, but I can hear the smile in her voice.

“Apparently, because I have no idea what you're talking about. What kinds of strange noises are you going to hear? I usually turn my TV up to block out all the strange sounds like the neighbor’s kids and the lady behind me that sounds like Fran fucking Drescher.”

“You know who Fran Drescher is?”

“My mother was a big fan of that stupid show she was in. Stop changing the subject. What are you listening for? Hayden won’t sneak out.”

“What if someone breaks in?”

“You're not serious.”

“Of course I'm serious!”

“What do you do all night?” I ask.

“Work,” she admits. “Well, usually I clean, and then I work.”

“I’m coming over.”

“You can’t.”

The panic in her voice doesn’t make her sound upset about the idea, but afraid.

Is it because she likes me?

“Why not?” I ask.

“It’s like nine o'clock.”

“Are you about to turn orange and sprout a stem?”

“That and I'm not wearing a bra, if you must know.”

“So put it back on.”

“You don't understand. That's like saying put your jeans back on.”

“I am in jeans,” I lie just to get a reaction out of her.

“What is wrong with you?” she cries.

“What's wrong with jeans?”

“They're stiff and uncomfortable. Wearing jeans all day is basically equivalent to walking on sandpaper. But at least you guys have pockets that will actually hold something larger than a thimble and don’t ride up your ass.”

“If your bra is riding up your ass, we have bigger fish to fry than being afraid of the boogey man.”

This is a well written story.  Ella, as a teenager, fell in love with a man. A man she did not know was married.  But in order to  giver her son Hayden a father she moved to the small town where the father lived.  And shortly thereafter was branded with the proverbial scarlet letter.  With only one friend, Rachel, she stayed in the town, handling the rumors and gossip the best that she could.  When a firefighter, Coen moves in across the street from Rachel, small changes start to occur.  Especially when Coen starts teaching Hayden how to throw the perfect curveball.

I love when an author picks the perfect title for a book, this nails it.  Curveball is perfect for this story, metaphorically and physically.  I loved that there was an underlying mystery within the plot that kept me on my toes and had me wondering "who" until it was revealed.  That is hard to do.  I also enjoyed the slow burn between the various characters.  Getting to know the background stories of each one was great.  The way the author revealed it seemed so natural.  There was non of that "it isn't my story to tell" because really, who does that?  I felt that I could walk next door and find Ella, Hayden or Coen.  I enjoy when a writer makes me feel like the characters are my friends.

Pucked Off, an all-new emotional and sexy STANDALONE from Helena Hunting is LIVE!!

Pucked Off by Helena Hunting

Genre: Contemporary Romance
businessman working on laptop in black suit

***A Standalone novel in The Pucked Series***
I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance."
I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want.
Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.
I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.
At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.
I shouldn’t want her.
But I do.
I should leave her alone.
But I won’t.

Excerpt:

Armed with my clipboard, I walk down the hall to the waiting room. Lance is impossible to miss. Despite the fact that he’s wearing a sweatshirt and the hood is covering half of his face, he’s more than six feet of broad, hockey-playing man. He’s so wide his shoulders encroach on the chairs on either side, which would explain why no one is sitting next to him. He’s slouched down so his head rests on the back of the chair, and his hands are clasped in his lap, a baseball cap hanging off one knee. His lips, plush and soft—I know since I’ve had them on mine; it might have been a decade ago, but I remember it clearly—are parted. He looks like he’s asleep. I clear my throat. “Lance Romero?” He doesn’t move. Bernadette, the receptionist, gives me a meaningful look. I clear my throat again and call his name a second time. He jolts awake and the hood falls back, exposing his face. It’s not in good shape. He has a black eye and bruises on his left cheek. There’s a fly bandage across one eyebrow. Sadly, he’s still hot. He blinks a few times, yawns, and smacks his lips, his tongue touching the split in the bottom one. His gaze sweeps the room and finally lands on me. Heat explodes in my cheeks and courses through my limbs, warming me from the inside out as he starts at my sneaker-clad feet and roams up over my yoga pants to my company-issued T-shirt before stopping at my face. I can’t look directly at him for more than a couple of seconds. I sincerely hope he doesn’t remember me. I cannot go there and also be professional. I’m sure the smile he gives me has melted many a panty off a slutty bunny. Mine stay right where they’re supposed to, wedged up my ass. I force a polite, professional veneer. “I’m ready for you now.”

Lance's story.  I have waited for this story and it was everything that I needed it to be.  This is a great stand alone continuation of Helena Hunting's Pucked Series.  It was great to see the characters from the previous books really shine in this one as well.  For those guys this is a wonderful way to do an epilogue.  But they don't steal the show from Poppy and Lance.  Just enhance it the right amount.

Lance has a past, that he can't shake.  This was a theme throughout the book.  The author handled this really well.  It was done in such a way that it seemed realistic.  It wasn't crazy or over the top for these characters.  What I enjoyed the most was the characters' reactions to the drama within the plot.  There was never a time when I became upset with the way a character was acting, Poppy and Lance and even the secondary characters stayed true to what you would expect from them.  There is nothing worse than reading a book about 20-30 year old people and all of a sudden someone starts acting 15.  Not here.  This is written just like you could sit down next to one of the girls an enjoy the hockey game with them.

Hunting brought us into a world that  I quite frankly don't want to leave.  I wanted to hear more of Lance's accent and wanted to hang out and chill with Poppy.  I can't wait for more.

Haley
The first time I felt Master Jensen's presence beside me, I knew he would be the one to show me all the kinky pleasures of Luminous.
That I would give my body to him. Begin my journey to sexual freedom at his feet.
But when I dared raise my eyes to his, I saw he would get a part of me no man had had before: my trust.
Jensen
From the instant I saw her blush, I was captivated.
There was power in her innocence—a power I quickly controlled.
Every moan, every cry, every new awakening was mine. I pushed her boundaries and watched her sexual confidence grow…knowing that in the end, I would have to let her go.
I know the price of love and I'm not willing to pay it.
I dominated her body and she enthralled my heart. But I have to walk away before I ruin the one I love.
Again.

Excerpt:

“Master Dylan, I believe you wanted to introduce me to this lovely woman.” The shudder returned, and I was able to fight it back marginally. I didn’t take my eyes off Master Dylan’s victorious expression as his smile grew cocky. “Get lost on the way here?” A rough growl came from the man at the edge of the table. “It’s been a while, forgot the way.” Master Dylan winked at him before turning to me. I hadn’t yet had the guts to see the man he’d apparently hand-picked for me. “Haley—” He was cut off by the man at my side. “My name’s Jensen. You can call me Sir.” Forcing myself to continue breathing, I turned toward the man whose voice sounded a mixture of sensual anger and irritation along with a heavy dose of lust. I shifted in the booth and dragged my eyes up his holy-incredible-defined body. Dark blue jeans, perfectly fitted at the thighs and thick at the crotch, a heavy leather black belt around a trim waist and then the dips and curves of a black shirt that covered his abdomen and the curves of his chest. I caught sight of well-shaved stubble, pink lips that had two perfect points on the top, and a slightly crooked but Romanian nose. His brows pulled so tightly together , his shoulders pulled back so tight and his stiff shoulders , all gave hints at his irritation, but it was his eyes that drew me in. Swirling pools of the deepest blue, darker than the blue sapphire ring I’d always worn on my right ring finger, threatened to undo me. They spoke a story I wanted to instantly unravel. My chest tightened. My God, he was sexy. So completely out of my league. I glanced at Dylan and he nodded at me. Suggesting I talk to this man? I couldn’t form words to do so. I looked back at Jensen. His scowl deepened as he asked, “Are you going to say hello?”One brow arched. Across the table from me, Master Dylan coughed. It broke whatever spell I’d been pulled into and I looked away from Jensen, recognizing my mistake. “Sorry, sir,”I instantly said. Amazing how inherent that one word had become. “My apologies, I’m Haley.” I slid my palm against his and his fingers wrapped around my hand, gripping me firmly. Sparks of a freshly stoked fire poured through my body at the smallest contact. I flinched in his grasp, shocked at my reaction, but he tightened his hold. Then he tugged me forward, pulling me to my feet until I was in front of him. “I am not a Master, and you may look me in the eye whenever we are speaking, unless I agree to train you and we are in a scene. Do you understand?” I continued staring at his hand wrapped around mine. He’d pulled me so easily to standing position. Air around us crackled with tension. It felt like a thousand eyes were trained in our direction yet I couldn’t look at anyone. I also couldn’t lift my gaze to his even though he’d implied I should. My breath sped up, chasing the thunderous racing of my heart inside my chest. “Haley,”Jensen warned. “Look at me.” He’d commanded. I wanted to listen. He knew I was new to this. If Master Dylan thought this man was perfect for me, he would have shared my knowledge and my willingness. It was difficult, but I obeyed. “It’s nice to meet you, sir.”I was parched, and I desperately wanted to reach for my champagne glass, but I couldn’t take my eyes off the man in front of me. I couldn’t remove my hand from his. A similar emotion flashed through Jensen’s eyes as his gaze wandered down my body. I didn’t consider myself overly beautiful, yet I had never lacked confidence, either. Except for the few years when I’d tried pitifully to fix a marriage that never should have happened and my confidence took a hit from that, I had parents who lavished their love on me. I had enough boys and men show enough attention to me that I knew I was physically attractive. Jensen seemed to be searching beyond the physical, beyond the tight, short black dress that showed off toned thighs and calves from years of yoga and running. I could have stood there for years and let him simply gaze upon me. Every area of my body that his eyes grazed over awakened. My chest grew heavy. A thick throbbing began at the tops of my thighs. Wetness flowed into my underwear. Beneath the flimsy lace bra and satiny top of my dress, my nipples hardened. “I’d like to take you on a tour of the place,”Jensen said, his grip around my hand flinching for a moment. I nodded my agreement, but he stood still, slowly arching a brow. I cleared my throat and answered. “Okay. Yes, that’d be great.” His lips that had pulled tight quirked at one corner. “Yes, what?” Oh. Right. “Sir. Yes, sir. I would like a tour, sir.” an

sub

Haley is coming out of a divorce and has been researching the BDSM world.   She is invited to the local club where she is to meet a potential dom.  At the same time, her ex-husband has decided to sue her for additional money.  She calls a lawyer for an appointment.  At the club she meets potential Dom Jensen, who is also a lawyer.  Jensen is very leery of having a new sub, due to his past.

The chemistry is off the charts and this book is definitely not safe for work.  I enjoyed the fact that both of these characters had realistic pasts.  The war within Jensen between being only a Dom to Haley versus being more was beautifully written.  I enjoyed how these characters interacted with the secondary characters as well.  I hope this is the start of a series because those secondary characters have great stories to tell.
