I usually am a sucker for Eva Winners Thorns of Omerta series but this one didn't hit the mark for me. 

Eva Winners' books are usually brilliant and full of suspense but Thorns of War only had a smidge of suspense and tended to be a lot more predictable. 

Lykos is the head of the Greek mafia and ends up having a one night stand with Violet one night while he's in the US on business. 

Years later, Violet is called to Greek as a psychiatrist via a weirdly cryptic note. She has no idea who her patient is but has an address. When she arrives, she finds it's Lykos' house. 

I liked that the book had some hidden secrets that came out while reading. That kept my interest going, that and I love a good psychological story line. 

I didn't really see much growth of the character except for maybe Violet. She became a bit more open minded. 

Overall, this book definitely isn't a favourite of mine and was predictable in the story line. 

I'm really hoping the next books in the series improve.

Thorns of Deceit is book seven in the Thorns of Omertà series and is the story of Raven and Aiden Callahan. 

It can be read as a standalone but there is a lot of carry over from other books. 

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as it’s a bit different with the tie in of the Irish mafia. The Callahan brothers are something else and their banter was hysterical at points. 

Raven finds herself thrown into the world of the Irish mafia after stumbling onto a particular intense interrogation at the strip club where she waitresses. Of course, being the mafia there’s only two choices the Callahans come up with; either kill Raven or she has to marry Aiden. 

Raven has had a hard upbringing where her Mom would have them move every couple of years and refused to tell Raven why. Raven never knew her father but always knew that he wasn’t any good, according to her mother. But now that she’s been pretty much thrown into a marriage she can’t move away again, when her mother demands it. 

This book had me intrigued from the very start. The twists and turns that Eva Winners is known for are definitely front and center and I LOVED it! So much mystery and not knowing where the story was going to take you next. 

Aiden’s character definitely kept my attention as he’s not your typical mafioso. He goes into this forged marriage with a different mindset than one would think. I actually found myself really liking his character. 

I honestly can’t wait to read about the other brothers’ stories when they come out!

I really enjoyed how the roles that we typically see in the male characters were reversed in this book. Where the men are the ones who typically kidnap the heroines, this time it’s swapped and Amara “kidnaps” Gabriel. 

This is almost like a slow burn romance as Gabriel has been obsessed with Amara for years, ever since she started at D’Arc. Now that so much time has passed, Gabriel is doing his best to keep tabs on Amara from a far while respecting her wishes. 

Amara and her adopted siblings, Jet and Elira (the Satan twins), get pulled into the mafioso world when they’re attacked while in Paris. Jet goes missing right afterwards and Amara is determined to find out what is going on. 

The story takes on multiple twists and turns. Where Amara couldn’t stand Gabriel before, they develop a connection over the course of the book that grows and grows. 

Gabriel tries his best to protect Amara from her siblings and their nefarious ways. I really enjoyed how his character matured and how he goes above and beyond to protect Amara. 

I’m really looking forward to what will I’m sure be a twisted story involving Anya and Jet!

Wow! Did this book rip out my heart and had me crying into my pillow late into the night. 

Enzo is the third book in the Legacy of Heathens series and man, will it take you the ride of your life. Definitely an enemy to lovers romance. 

Enzo Marchetti has been betrothed to Penelope DiMauro since they were kids. Penelope and her parents have fought for her entire life to find a way out of the arrangement but the Marchetti's wouldn't budge. Now, years later, Enzo has become obsessed with Penelope. He is determined to make her his wife.

Penelope DiMauro has loved her life growing up, with the exception of seeing her younger sister struggle with cancer. She loves playing the cello (a girl after my own heart - LOVE the cello!) and will do anything to make her little sister smile. Even if that means marrying the man she despises and wants nothing to do with. Penelope is a romantic at heart and loves reading romances, so of course she wants her life to be like one of her stories she loves. Sadly, that's not the way when your family is in the Italian mafia. 

This book is dark and had so many twists and turns. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved little Amara's character and how feisty she was even when she was struggling with cancer. I also loved how Penelope had such a calming effect on Enzo throughout the book, once they stopped fighting the attraction for one another. They balance each other out beautifully. 

Even though this book had me in a puddle of tears, I still cannot recommend it enough!

Nikola is the latest in the Legacy of Heathens series by Eva Winners and oh how I absolutely LOVED this book!

This is the story of Skye Leone and Nikola Nikolaev. They were raised as cousins but have no blood relation. 

I’ve always loved Skye’s character as she has already had to face obstacles due to being deaf, not to mention all the obstacles of being raised in the mafia world. She’s also unique because she was raised with adoptive parents and then returned to her biological parents. 

Nikola has always known Skye was off limits to himself, but has always defended her when bullies had her in their sights. He’s always been her protector. 

Now that they’re in their twenties, things are starting to take a different turn. Organ traffickers are on the rise and targeting criminal families. To help protect the women, arranged marriages are becoming more and more popular and Skye is no exception. Except Nikola is definitely not on board with that and will go to extreme lengths to make sure Skye is his. 

The twist and turns of this book were amazing. The obstacles that both Skye and Nikola have to overcome during this story were incredible. Nikola more so than Skye. I loved that all the kids of the families pull together to help one another out. I also love that a majority of the families learned ASL for Skye so they can all communicate. 

I can’t wait to read Enzo’s story next!
