Drive back to You Cover

Formula Q Series, Book 3

Formula Q is the fastest motorsport in the world. Only the highest-performing athletes can make it to the grid. They drive fast, work hard, and play hard, but off-camera, anything goes.

The public knows me as Daisuke Matsuro, aka ‘Kid Dynamo,’ the rookie driver from Japan. What no one knows is how close I was to one other driver on the grid growing up.

As teens, Robesy Robespierre was everything to me. He was my best friend, we were closer than brothers, but I pushed him away. Now, we’re neighbors who race against each other in front of the whole world. I want a second chance more than anything, but he hates my guts.

Over time, though, that old familiar spark returns between us. After a series of unthinkable life changes, Robesy and I become closer than ever. Nothing in my world will ever be the same, but I refuse to move on without earning his forgiveness.

I thought my dream was to be a professional Formula Q driver. Now, though, all I want is to drive back to Robesy. He’s my home, this is our race, and everything is on the line.

“Drive Back to You” is a male/male motorsports romance novel. It involves best-friends-turned-enemies-turned-lovers, card games, sexual awakenings, rooftop pool dates, a romance that has been ten years in the making, and yes, lots of racing action worldwide. It is book three of a series, has a HEA, and can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt:

“You uh…you were baking?” Daisuke points to the dish rag in my lap.

Berto and Hunter still aren’t paying attention as game music blares from the speakers. “No,” I reply. “I was…blowing my nose in this. Boom.” I toss it at his shoulder. “Voila. Now you are sick.”

Daisuke stares at me in shock before his face softens. I frown at him in faux-anger with plenty of real anger laced in there.

Daisuke folds the rag in his lap, seemingly content with this weird olive branch I’ve offered. “Worst Christmas gift ever,” he says.

Before my face can actually crack up, Berto and Hunter turn back to us.

“Hey, so we can play a game while we wait for the cookies to cool,” Berto says.

“Yeah we can…” Hunter pauses and looks between us on the couch. “Did you two meet already?”

“Yes,” I say as Daisuke says, “No.”

I glance at him then add, “We were at your Thanksgiving thing.”

“Right, that’s what you meant,” Daisuke says. “We were…both there.”

Hunter’s blue eyes dart between the two of us. Berto might be naive, but his boyfriend is a perceptive guy; he’s like a counselor or something, and Berto claims he’s the “smartest, coolest guy ever.”

“I read that you two grew up in Montreal,” Hunter says, carefully choosing his words. “Are you guys friends?”

“No,” I say, just as Daisuke says, “Yes.”

We fully rotate to glance at each other. We used to be able to read each other’s minds, and now we’re both in sync, yet completely off at the same time. “We’re not friends…we’re competitors. Because he’s driving for McLuther now.”

“Eh, that’s for the season,” Berto says, picking up cards. “Tonight we’re all mates.” Daisuke looks relieved, but Hunter seems dubious about my response. My former best friend and I are going to need to work things out in order to exist in the same circles.

Drive to feel Alive copy

Formula Q Series, Book 2

Formula Q is the fastest motorsport in the world. Only the highest-performing athletes can make it to the grid. They drive fast, work hard, and play hard, but off-camera, anything goes.

The public knows me as Berto ‘Honeybear’ Navarro, number two driver in the fastest team in FQ. I’m a simple guy, and I’m perfectly content with my life as a motorsports celebrity. The world doesn’t need to know that I don’t like sex or dating.

I’m not gay like my buddy Damon, but I’m not really straight either. It’s time to face the scary truth: I’m probably asexual.

The only sliver of hope I have is my new friend Hunter. He helps me work through my orientation issues and doesn’t judge me for feeling uneducated and naïve. He’s sweet, smart, and generous with his time.

As the weeks go by, Hunter and I get closer, and suddenly intimacy is something I want to explore, but only with him. Hunter makes everything feel right. I thought I’d never find anyone who lights a fire in me, but my new best friend makes the fireworks go off in my heart.

I thought winning races was the ultimate high and all I needed in life. That was before I touched Hunter—now, I crave so much more. For sex and love, I finally found my green light, and I’m not slowing down.

Excerpt:

RIPPP!

THE SOUND of half my shirt being torn from my body is so loud I bet all of Nevada can hear it. I’m in a tented booth in the small town of Coyote where I’ve been signing autographs for charity all afternoon. Now, with only a few patrons left, it seems I’ll need to be shirtless, as part of my orange, short-sleeved button-down hangs off the right side of my body.

“I got it! I got Heriberto Navarro’s shirt!” The young girl in front of me squeals in delight while my friend Robesy Robespierre laughs next to me.

See, this is why I don’t like being a celebrity. I’m a driver in Formula Q, the fastest motorsport in the world, categorized by the single-seater machines we race in. Am I happy to compete in professional karting internationally? Yes, it’s all I know. Does it come with plenty of perks and a sweet paycheck? Of course! Does being a celebrity come with downsides? Also yes. Apparently, in addition to dodging sports paparazzi, I have to worry about literally losing the shirt on my back.

“Honey, that was impolite,” an older woman, presumably her mom, says. “You can’t go around grabbing people’s shirts!” She looks at me with remorse. “I am so sorry, Mr. Navarro.”

“Uh, no worries?” I mean for it to be true, but I uncomfortably laugh while it comes out as a question. When the woman looks me up and down, I cross my arms. I’m not shy about my body—I’ve done underwear advertisements for dios sake—but I wasn’t prepared to be shirtless today.

“Eh, it’s no problem for mon ami ici.” Robesy pats me on the back. He’s a fellow FQ driver, a party animal, and I’ve picked up on his Quebecoise over the years. Though right now, I kind of want to punch him in his smug symmetrical face. “He’s used to these kinds of fan interactions, eh?” He grins at me, and I glare at him.

Robesy has a point; I should be accustomed to this celebrity lifestyle, but sometimes it can get overwhelming. Racing is my element. Being on the track, feeling the roar of the kart underneath me, and tuning myself to anticipate the turns as well as my competition is what I live for. But I never wanted to be a celebrity. Millions of people talk about me worldwide. I’m on billboards, websites, and even trading cards. When everyone talks about you, it can feel like you don’t own the right to be yourself. To the public eye, I have to be Heriberto ‘Honeybear’ Navarro, a nickname the fans drummed up for me.

I never got the average teenager experience as a kid since I kept winning at the Vypari Racing Academy in Texas. Some days, the fast-paced lifestyle gets to be too much. I don’t even use the internet often because sports channels are too much drama. I’m a simple guy, and I don’t need much more in life than all the gifts I’ve been given.

“Alright, step aside, these guys are done with autographs for today.” One of the bodyguards announces that the last two people stepping up will be the end of the event. The girl who now has half my shirt giggles and walks away. Her mom turns back to me and gives me a heated stare.

“I am so sorry, Mr. Navarro. If there’s any way I can help you...” Her voice trails off dripping in innuendo. Let’s add that to the list of things I’m still not comfortable with. I’m in my third season in FQ, and yes, I get plenty of female attention. This older woman is staring at me like I’m a three-course meal and she’s starving.

“I’m good. No worries. Your daughter can keep the shirt. Take care. I’m going to find some clothes.” I chuckle and my cheeks feel warm. Her flirtation is flattering, but not welcome. I should love the female attention and the groupies, but even if the girls are hot, they don’t do it for me. The way this woman is staring has me squirming in discomfort. I’m feeling exposed on multiple levels, and the ripped fabric on my body hides nothing.

The woman seems like she wants to argue, but Robesy cuts her off. “Hey, Berto, I’m sure this guy can take care of you and get you dressed. Sir?” He hollers to the man behind me, and I turn around. Hunter, whom we both met only hours ago, is standing there closing up a lockbox. He directs the True Self Center, an LGBTQ support center. He has blond hair, blue eyes, a wider frame, and his whole demeanor screams “kind and cuddly,” like he couldn’t hurt a fly. “Do you have a shirt Berto can borrow?”

Excerpt:

I try to hide the affection on my face. “You know, it’s illegal to give your nurse a bribe.”

He rolls his eyes. “Well, it’s not illegal to give my friend a gift. Now open it.”

I reach in and pull out what looks to be a large black box. “What is this?”

“It’s a digital sketching tablet, along with some software for digital art.”

“What?”

“If your PC isn’t compatible, you can return it; I included the receipt. But I was thinking you could start, you know…doing this professionally. Or just practice. Rocky, I know you’re good enough to make online comic art.” I look up at him and see he’s scratching his ear and looking away. “Or, um, you…you don’t have to,” he stutters.

“Damon, this is…” I stare at the hardware in my hand. This would cost me a fortune. “This is too generous!”

“Do you like it?” An odd mixture of hope and fear is in his eyes; it makes me realize how much power I have to hurt him right now, not that I’d want to.

“Damon…I love it. But you shouldn’t have!”

“I wanted to. Because…” He doesn’t finish his sentence. Instead, I fling myself at him and hold him tight. He hugs me back, and it warms me up from the inside out. He smells like hot cocoa and something else entirely—it might be too soon, but he smells like comfort and home.

Before I can pull away, Damon holds me tighter. When he finally lets go, he lightly brushes his lips on my cheek. I’m frozen in shock and feel my heart try to escape my chest. “Well, goodnight.” He quickly gets in his car and speeds away.

I put my hand on my cheek and feel the ghost of his kiss. I don’t know what it meant or what’s going on in Damon’s head. All I know is this Christmas, everything has shifted between him and me. It’s like there’s no solid ground when I’m around Damon Davidoff—just me, floating and falling all at once.

Blog Tour for The Roles We Own by CD Rachels!

The Roles We Own Banner

Release Tour, Excerpt & Giveaway:
The Roles We Own
By CD Rachels

The Roles We Own Cover

Artists and Athletes, Book 4

Omar

Romance isn’t for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love the corniness of romcoms, but it’s not in the cards in my life. I play hard on the soccer field, I party hard with my boys, and I fool around with any girl or guy who’s hot and willing. The only person off limits: my best friend’s boyfriend’s brother, Sly O’Rourke. He’s cute, but I don’t do feelings.

Staying away from him would be easy if I didn’t have to direct the school musical for my degree credits. Sly is auditioning, and he’s not the shy, nerdy dude everyone thinks he is. He’s talented, charming, and gorgeous—totally boyfriend material, if I ever did relationships. When he asks for help practicing physical intimacy for the play, how can I refuse? It’s my job to make sure this musical is a success, and that’s what this is: strictly business.

But when his mouth catches mine, our bodies don’t get the memo. I don’t think Sly and I are acting anymore.

Sly

I’ve played the role of a comfortable straight guy for too long. The truth is: the thought of physical intimacy makes me nauseous. I’m not interested in anyone, guy or girl, which sucks, because I’ve always wanted a romantic story of my own.

Now that I’m at Korham University, I have the chance to redefine myself. If I play the role of a romantic hero during the semester musical, maybe I’ll learn to enjoy touching people or catch real feelings for once. There is one complication to my plan: I have to spend a lot of time with the soccer jock Omar Odom. He’s a touchy, handsy, party boy, but I eventually see a different side to him. As the weeks go by, my brother’s boyfriend’s best friend doesn’t seem so bad. He’s chill in ways I never could be and supports me in the play. He’s the perfect guy who can help me with the physical aspects of the dramatic arts.

When Omar puts his mouth on mine, I expect to be repulsed, not burning up on the inside. I’ve never wanted a girl or guy before so…what is happening to me? And why don’t I want it to stop?

The Roles We Own is a low-angst, male/male romance about new adults in college. It involves theater rehearsals, soccer games, frat parties, cartoon onesies, raisin bagels, and discovering what gray-asexuality can mean.

It is the fourth book in the “Artists and Athletes” series but can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt:

“You scared me that day…during the cake incident…but the first night we met, you touched my face…”

“Sorry about that.” I cringe.

“No, what I’m trying to say is: it wasn’t even that bad? When it’s you…it’s like I don’t mind.” He looks back up, his brown eyes catching mine. He has a gorgeous face with smooth skin, and perfectly-styled brown hair. “What is it about…you?”

My heart is beating out of my chest and I lick my lips on instinct. Before I can respond, Sly says, “I bet it’s ‘cause you’re tight with my brother. That makes me like a brother to you. Transitive property, remember?”

He smiles at me and I melt at the sight. I feel hope and disappointment clash in my chest—Sly has friend-zoned me, but this is what I wanted, right?

“Maybe…to help for the play, we can practice…physical contact? Just you and me?” His huge brown eyes are filled with need, but I’m frozen with conflict. Is he asking me what I think he’s asking?

When I don’t respond after a few seconds, he says “I’m sorry. That was inappropriate.”

“No!” I blurt. His eyebrows raise and I tear my eyes off him and look around. Our reflections are infinitely bouncing off the mirrored walls. “It…could be arranged.”

Looking back at Sly, he’s got that million-dollar smile on. He raises his hand for a handshake. “So…you don’t mind helping me get over my fear of being touched? As friends, in private?”

I gulp. Being in a secluded room and putting my hands—and who knows what else—on Sly’s body? This is a disaster waiting to happen. I’ve read enough romance novels and screenplays to know that this can only lead to catching even more feelings and heartbreak. Bad idea, Omar, pull back, now.

I hear my own voice before I register I’m saying it. “When do you wanna start?”

The Roles We Own is the last book in the Artists and Athletes series, this whole series is marvellous, wonderful stories about “ life” for these wonderful characters.

Now we meet Sly, he is extremely withdrawn and seems isolated he understands he has a problem with being touched, he sees others being touched and wishes he could relax enough to feel someone touching him, but no he just can't...

Enter Omar, who plays on the KU soccer team and is a round great guy, and an awesome friend to anyone.

Sly and Omar meet during school musical rehearsals, Omer is helping the musical director he notices that Sly is having trouble connecting with his stage partner physically.

In private Omar is giving Sly lessons on touch —- Sly is finding himself wanting Omar’s company more and more, they talk and understand each other which gives Sly such an overwhelming feeling that he yearns for Omar’s touch.

Again I adored this book, C D Rachels writes a story that I completely fall into, it’s about finding your truth and perhaps a label that you can relate to.

Check out Book 1: The Lines We Draw

Ravi

I’m perfectly fine in my comfort zone. As co-captain of my university soccer team, I know my place. I play hard on the field and my teammates look up to me. Would they look up to me if they knew I liked guys? Probably not, so I’m okay staying a closeted virgin.

That is, until I’m forced to take an arts class, and I’m seated next to the sexiest guy I’ve ever seen. He helps me pass art class, makes me laugh, and has me wanting things I never thought were possible. As the semester goes on, we get closer, and trying to keep my hands off him and stay away from him becomes nearly impossible.

What will happen to my position on the team if I ask him out? I don’t think I’m willing to find out. Now I just gotta stop dreaming about kissing him and holding him… Damn.

Steven

As a fine arts major, I have to focus on creating good work and impressing my professors. Part of that entails sitting in on this beginners arts class, and I just so happen to be next to a gorgeous athlete this semester.

Relationships are a sour note for me, but flirting with the co-captain of the soccer team could be fun. I know it’s not going to go anywhere- he’s straight. Over time, though, becoming friends with Ravi, teaching him how to visualize his art, and learning about his life makes me question what we’re doing.

I don’t know if I’m ready to let someone else into my heart again, least of all a potential closet case (no matter how sexy he is). Still with the way he makes me smile and how my heart beats when I’m near him, I think we’re both in too deep now.

The Lines We Draw is a low-angst, friends-to-lovers story involving art classes, soccer games, nude models, drunken parties, and discovering what sex and love can really feel like, HEA guaranteed. It is the first of a series and can be read as a standalone.

The Moves We Make FINAL

Artists and Athletes, Book 2

Landon
On my university soccer team, people see me as an obnoxious loud-mouth, but this semester, I’m turning over a new leaf. Part of that involves supporting my best friend and his new relationship (with a guy!). Ravi being gay has really thrown me for a loop. The way he looks at Steven, it makes me feel… jealous? I’m not gay, but no girl has ever made me feel the way those two feel about each other. To top it off, I’m forced to take my university arts requirement in the form of a dance class! I have to fumble around trying not to fail while the teaching assistant Dane refuses to take it easy on me.
Still, the longer I spend in dance class, the more I get to know the real Dane: he’s fun, interesting, sweet, attractive, and… did I say attractive?! No way, that’s not what I meant. Because if I actually feel that way then… turning over a new leaf just got a LOT more complicated.

Dane
Dance is my life, and being a performing artist is my ultimate goal. That’s why I took this university TA position and why I’m hoping to secure an internship in the big city. I refuse to get distracted by some (admittedly handsome) jock that I’m tasked with teaching. He’s uncoordinated, but eventually, I can tell that he’s actually trying, so I cut him some slack. There’s also the tiny detail that he admits he may not be 100% straight.
That’s fine by me. It’s not like a guy like that would go for someone with a messed up face like mine. Still, as the weeks go by, something shifts and we become closer. I can’t let myself become sidetracked in catching feelings for a boy who’s new to being queer. I just need to disregard the burning chemistry we have whenever we’re in the dance studio alone. It’ll be easy to ignore the way he makes my heart flutter when he talks to me, or how charming he is when he lets down his guard.
Well… maybe one kiss won’t hurt, right?

The Moves We Make is a low-angst, male/male romance, opposites-attract story involving hands-on movement lessons, road trips, drunken dance floors, soccer games, and discovering what love and sex with the RIGHT person can actually lead to, HEA guaranteed. It is the second of the Artists and Athletes series but can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt:

He drops off Jonathan and Tisha, then drives slightly farther to get to Val’s dorm. I’m thankful that I don’t live in any of their buildings, because I really want to wish Landon a special goodnight (and I do NOT want anyone around to witness that).

“I’m gonna park near the athletics dorms. Do you want me to drop you off somewhere?” He looks at me expectantly, and I think we’re on the same page.

“I’ll let you park first,” I reply, trying to sound nonchalant. Landon’s smirk is not lost upon me.

Once he finally pulls into a spot. He turns off the engine and looks at me in the passenger seat. It’s so quiet and the tension between us is thick. Fuck, is it hot in here again? Landon really needs to fix this inconsistent heating situation, because I am sweating.

I look over to see him looking up at nothing in particular, lips pursed like he’s thinking of what to say. This is too awkward. I want to go, but I need to stay and say some form of goodnight.

“I just realized…” I begin slowly. He looks at me expectantly. “It’s your birthday. I didn’t get you anything.”

“I disagree.” Before I know it, he’s reaching over and pulling my shirt collar in. Centimeters away from my face, he pauses. He’s giving me an out, and I’m touched that he’s being so thoughtful. I look at him and simply nod.

Our mouths meet, and suddenly it’s an encore performance of our tongues tasting each other. Landon must have some pheromone, because I could breathe him in forever. My fingers explore his scalp while I try to memorize the way he tastes. I push his head up with both hands and he complies, knowing that I want to taste his neck. I trace my tongue down to his collar bone and suck little marks into his skin up to his jaw. He moans in pleasure, so I know he’s enjoying what I’m giving to him. Every part of him so far tastes good, and I wonder what his cock tastes like. Finally, I kiss my way back to his lips and we proceed to make out some more.

An eternity or five minutes later, we pull apart, panting. I smile and he grins back. “Good birthday?” I ask, breathing heavily.

“The best.” His voice is deeper than usual and his eyes are glistening. I notice him looking down at my lips again. I need to call it a night before I let him fuck me right here in the campus parking lot.

“Glad to hear it. It’s late though, I should get going.”

“Alright,” he smiles.

“Good night Landon.” I open the car door and try to convince my erection to go down so I can walk in peace.

I hear him holler “Night Dane!” as I close the door. I don’t look back as I march away, because if I do, I’ll end up back in his arms and on his mouth.

I’m starting to forget why that’s such a bad idea.

About the Author:

CD Rachels has been coming up with stories since he was little. At first it was all about superheroes and pocket monsters, but his genre of choice has expanded since puberty.

He’s been consuming young adult gay fiction since he was a teen, but within the past five years moved up to the big leagues of gay adult romance. In 2020 during quarantine, he burned through more male/male romance books than he ever had in the previous 29 years combined.

He lives in New York City with the love of his life and works in health insurance. When he’s not reading and writing, he’s playing board games and practicing music. He is honored to become a self-published author, and if you’re reading this, your support means so much to him that it’s giving him a tingly feeling (in a good way).
