FBI Files, Book 3

A copycat serial killer is driving their whole team crazy.

Dr. Leo Reeves has always considered himself a halfway decent criminal profiler. Some of his colleagues even call him brilliant. With this assignment, he sure as hell doesn’t feel that way. He’s been missing something at every turn. The case is dragging into its seventh month and every lead he and his team follow, takes them to a dead end…literally. Leo sure hasn’t come up with anything to move things along, as hard as he’s tried. They’re no closer to capturing their killer…even after following him all the way to Miami.

Special Agent Max Prince is worried.

The longer this case goes on, the farther down the rabbit hole, his partner and lover, Leo, seems to fall. To make matters worse, back home in Los Angeles, detectives Cassidy Ryan and Mike Williams have turned up a second graveyard filled with some surprising victims…victims the team know well. Worse yet, Miami has left them with even more questions. When a good cop is murdered, the whole case turns on its head. Everyone wants answers and their team doesn’t have any.

Something has to change.

Worst of all, the copycat hasn’t stopped killing, leaving strange clues behind, even inserting himself into the case. When one of their own is put in horrible danger, and DNA results reveal a shocking truth, things get even more complicated. No one likes taking risks, especially when they involve meeting the killer on his terms. But taking that risk, might be the only way to resolve this case. Whether it’s the desert graveyards of SoCal, the sexy hot nights of South Beach’s gay scene, or the sticky bayous of New Orleans, Max and Leo have vowed to end this monster once and for all…if he doesn’t end them first.

Excerpt:

“Leo…Leo.” He blinked awake, then slowly rolled his head on the headrest to find Max staring into his eyes. As always, his lover was the most beautiful man, even when the expression on his handsome face was serious and his pale green eyes were clouded with worry. He’d been looking at him that way for several weeks.

“Where are we?” Leo sat forward, reaching up to wipe drool from his cheek. He’d fallen asleep against the plane’s window as it flew through the night.

“Somewhere over Central Texas. We still have two and a half hours before we land in Miami. Good nap?”

Leo dragged his gaze away from him and turned to the window. With the lights low in the cabin, he couldn’t even make out shapes in the night sky. He looked back at Max and sighed, bending forward so he could take his water out of the seat back. “I guess.” He took a long sip and recapped the bottle. “I don’t get much uninterrupted sleep these days.”

Max reached for his hand and threaded their fingers together before resting it on his thigh. “Do you think I’m not aware of that, darlin’?”

Leo frowned. “I’m sorry, Max. Of course, you are.” The last three months had been one long nightmare, trying to learn all they could about their elusive copycat during the day, and trying to forget all about what he did, at night. Lincoln was finally back at work, heading up his extraordinary FBI team as they worked to shut down the cell Gunter Becker’s Road Knights had controlled. The outlaw biker was currently cooling his heels in a Federal prison after the FBI had refused to sign off on his WITSEC deal when they found Kathy Campbell dead.

Meanwhile, the team had managed to put several of their targets permanently out of business. Between Grant Jacobs, a self-professed copycat of Dean Arnold Corll, and Andrew Wiley, a copycat who took great pride in modeling himself after Dr. Harold Shipman, two less killers had been deprived of their lives. Leo couldn’t say he’d been upset to see either man meet his end. Seeing them behind bars would have been preferrable to writing reports about how neither had survived when they’d been confronted by the team and opted for suicide by cop but that hadn’t been their choice.

“Leo?”

He met Max’s questioning gaze with one of his own. “Yeah, baby?”

“Grant Jacobs and Andrew Wiley…”

“What about them?” Leo cocked his head to the side.

“It’s like…ya know, it’s like they just tried to get themselves killed. They wanted it, right? That’s some kinda pathology, right? ‘Cause, I don’t think serial killers are usually prone to suicide. Am I wrong?”

Leo shook his head. “No. Not usually, Max, but the vast range of pathologies that go with that kind of mind are so huge, they truly can’t be painted with a single brush. A lot of the time they’re extreme narcissists, while they loathe themselves so badly, they long for death at any cost. Most of them fall somewhere in the middle on that spectrum.”

“And the serial killer working with Greg Campbell? The Sweetwater Slaughterer’s copycat? He’s not suicidal, right?”

“We don’t know that yet, Max.” Leo smiled sadly at him. “We only know one thing about him.”

“What’s that, darlin’?”

“He’s not finished.”

Blog Tour for Leo On Fire by Patricia Logan

Leo on Fire
By Patricia Logan

Leo on Fire

FBI Files, Book 2

Some days, fighting crime, just doesn’t pay.

FBI Profiler, Leo Reeves, has settled into his new job and his new life in Los Angeles. Working with Max Prince every day in the office is fulfilling but not as satisfying as burning up the sheets with him every night at home. Their first case together as partners resulted in the bad guys either behind bars or six feet under, but neither man thinks they’ve put an end to the murderous ring. As time goes on, and they interview the ones they did manage to arrest, the agents realize a much larger organization is at work.

Could a criminal mastermind be controlling multiple cells of murderers?

When one of their team is gunned down in a senseless mass shooting, Leo and Max are fueled by a new motive…rage. As more of the corpses from their first case are identified, new information about the kidnapping ring begins to emerge. When they realize copycats are mirroring the work of famous serial killers, things go from bad to worse. For Leo, working as a profiler has always been his passion but he begins to rethink everything when one copycat starts skinning his victims.

When they connect the gunman to a notorious criminal biker gang, things get even uglier.

On top of everything else, Max’s past comes back to bite him when his sweet pooch is threatened by a stalker. And if they haven’t led a life filled with complications until now, Leo and Max learn an old nemesis of Snow and McCallahan is connected to the case. From the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown L.A. to the scorching deserts around Victorville, criminals seem to be coming out of the woodwork to mess with them both.

Excerpt:

“There’s something Noah didn’t tell you about all these victims,” Snow said. Everyone quieted and turned toward their boss. “There’s another thing that ties all five of them together. The coroner believes that being shot in the back of the head was a final act and in the case of some of these victims, the cause of death.”

“What else would have caused it?” Beth asked.

Snow blew out a long breath. “It seems these five victims were a mirror of other serial killers’ crimes.” He turned and looked directly at Leo. “I’m sorry. One of these victims was skinned.”

Leo felt all the blood drain out of his face at once. His stomach heaved, and he began to hear a whooshing sound in his ears. He sucked in a long, slow breath, doing his best not to concentrate on the way his head was suddenly spinning. Someone squeezed his thigh, and he looked down at the big male hand and then up at Max. He sat beside him looking so pained, he’d only seen that expression once before, when his partner had seen the little boy about to be murdered by Svetlana right in front of them.

“Breathe, Leo,” Max whispered.

“What’s going on?” Perez asked.

Leo tore his gaze away from Max and looked over at his big friend. He was staring at him and then shifted his gaze to Max when he got no response. Next, he turned to look at Lincoln.

“What’s going on, Lincoln?” Perez asked again.

When his gaze connected with his boss, Leo gave a small nod.

“All of these victims were copycat crimes of a serial killer from the past. In one case, two lovers were parked in their car on a street at night and were shot through the glass. Those wounds were inflicted with a .44 caliber. Particular attention was paid to the female victim as she was shot multiple times.

This book is certainly action-packed never a dull moment!

Leo and Max are FBI agents working on an ongoing case that is hampered by someone doing copycat killings.

An extremely interesting book that had me completely engrossed.

I was easily drawn into the story as the writing flowed and the characters were solid.

Leo and Max are more than work partners finding that they can’t resist each other.

They both are supportive of each other …

Criminals, Copycat killings, huge amount of chaos plus two FBI agents who have very strong feelings for each other.

Clean up on Aisle Mine Amazon 1867-x-2800

A Spy Like Me, Book 1

Former CIA operative, Damon Thorne, is a fixer. He cleans up messes other people make of their lives to forget the wreckage his own has become. Whether it means retrieving a drug addict whose family is being blackmailed or rescuing a furball who’s the subject of a custody dispute, Damon just gets things done.

When the job means kidnapping the wild son of a prominent Senator in an election year, it should come with hazard pay.

From the day Jude Chenoweth was born into wealth and position, his father has groomed him to follow in his footsteps. Jude has other plans. Openly gay and infamous, all he wants to do is live his life, create his art, and never settle down.

Life has a way of kicking butts, even the sexy ones. Thrown together in a situation neither wanted, Damon and Jude must now decide how to move forward. Jude knows something is wrong when he gazes into Damon’s haunted brown eyes and Damon recognizes there’s much more to Jude than the caricature he shows the world.

This might be the beginning of a journey… or an incredibly stupid mistake. Perhaps working together will help them process their own demons. Whatever happens, neither of them believes Damon’s assignments will always come with a heaping helping of bad guys.

Not always… right?

Excerpt:

“Have you heard from your father?” Cooper’s father was Brad’s campaign manager and had been since he started out in California politics over twenty years ago.

Cooper’s face lost its smile immediately as he nodded. “I did. He says the family is expecting you to play much more of a role in the campaign as we draw closer to November. Next week there’s supposed to be an interview after his campaign rally in Sacramento.”

Jude’s lips thinned. If there was one thing he could point to that he hated more than anything in this world, it was playing a role in his father’s political campaigns.

“Right. I’m certain Brad’s republican colleagues would just love it if I showed up on stage with my father and told them what I really think of their platform. Holt should do the interview.”

Cooper popped another handful of edamame into his mouth, chewing. He swallowed and grinned at him. “The interview is with the leader of the Log Cabin Republicans. They want an idea of the republican platform from a gay man’s point of view.”

Jude’s jaw dropped open and he folded his arms. “Like hell! Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean I’m going to kowtow to those guys.”

Cooper grinned wider. “Look at it this way. You’re like a zoo animal. The gay son of a republican senator from a Liberal state. Who knew you’d be popular enough to be interviewed by Sally Sly? Just think of the “cause”, Jude.” Cooper batted his eyelashes in a pleading way that made Jude burst out laughing.

“Fuck Sally Sly. I’m not sitting in a room with that republican shrew for one minute. Did you see her article on marriage equality before SCOTUS ruled on Obergefell v. Hodges? Her views are just short of Fascist.”

“Maybe an interview with Sally Sly will have its benefits,” Cooper said with a little shrug. “I’ll tell dad to write into the contract that you like getting pegged. Maybe you’ll enjoy a strap-on. You’ll never know until you try, babe.”

Jude was still laughing when the waitress walked over with a tray and began setting down the obscene number of rolls that Cooper had ordered. He accepted his own volcano roll and seafood salad, leaning over to take a long whiff of it. It smelled lovely and his own stomach rumbled the moment he caught the delicious scent. They both dug into their food and ate for a few minutes before Jude brought the subject up again.

“Your dad asked you to tell me about it, right? My father was too afraid to ask me himself?” Jude pinned Cooper with a hard stare and his best friend shrugged.

Clean Up On Aisle Mine by Patricia Logan an easy 5 stars ...

I couldn't get enough of these men , Damon Thorne and Jude Chenoweth.
They met in an unconventional way , from that point they grew towards each other .

Both men held secrets .

Both men have been hurt .

They knew their was something between them , how they got past that point was beautiful to read.

Suspense , intrigue much more in the book , fast paced , great story-line.
Patricia Logan is a author I have not had the pleasure of reading before, that has changed now !
I didn't want this book to end , such a wonderfully written book , book two will be awesome.
