5 stars This is a story of young love, fraught with drama and real life struggles. Ms. Speak writes a story that keeps you captivated and wondering if you really can guess what the secret is. The story opens with the two main characters reunited after a year, and has the reader aching with longing to have the kind of sweet all-encompassing love they have. For two young people just starting out, they have an incredible sense of loyalty and what’s right and wrong. Faced with responsibilities that are something that two young people shouldn’t have to be juggling, they draw on each other’s love to strengthen their courage. Just when you think they finally have it figured out and life will get smoother for them, they hit another speed bump. Through it all, their unwavering love for each other has you cheering them on to victory. Canyon is mature beyond his years, and his love for Ari is the stuff little girls dream of finding for themselves. Readers young and old will be touched by the poignancy of their love story. This was a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It makes you believe that a happy ending is possible if you never give up.

Let It Be Me

5 Stars
Ms. Speak writes a love story that keeps you captivated and wondering if you really can guess what Ari’s  secret is.    The story opens with Ari and her family leaving everything they know and relocating.   Ari and her stepfather both blame her.  Enter the hero.  Why do I say Hero?  Because he reaches into her heart, and begins to heal it.  He is in love with her from the minute he meets her.  With patience and love, he begins to work his way through the walls that she’s put up.  But Ari has a secret, a dangerous secret.

Ari also has an abusive stepfather.  Ms. Speak stirs your emotions and you want to reach into the pages and throttle her stepfather.  You cheer when Canyon stands up for her to protect her.

Ms. Speak keeps your attention as she weaves a tender love story filled with healing, and heartbreak.   Canyon slowly works his way past the walls in Ari’s heart, and she loves him more than she thought possible.  Her secret comes forward, threatening the life of the man she loves.  And it’s this love that makes her dig deep and find the courage to face the past, her dangerous secret, and the people who would kill her to keep her quiet.

This was a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading.  The story was realistic, and kept you turning pages until the very end.  If you’re looking for a great book to read, this is it.

His eyes never left mine as he was being pulled away, and I knew the future was ours as a family. Nothing could take that away from me again. I watched his mouth as he silently spoke, "I love you." He was pulled out of sight before I could respond, but we had the rest of our lives for me to say those words. And I planned on saying them as often as possible.

Author Barbara Speak loves nothing more than being allowed to share her ideas and thoughts through books that so many enjoy.
