Spotlight Tour & Review by Alicia for Twice Upon a Time by Hope Irving

Once upon a time, I was Morgann, a 9th century Irish calligrapher-monk.

Deirdre was my assignment, my forbidden love, a witch with whom I wrote a coveted book.

Unfortunately, our story didn't get a chance to become a fairy tale, it turned out as a famous urban legend referred as The Black Angel Book.

In order to protect the book from getting in to the wrong hands, Deirdre cast a spell. One where I remember and she forgets. Under her spell, our souls travel from body to body until we find each other again. Eventually.

My quest is to find Deirdre, in whatever body her soul inhabits and trigger her memory. Only, the woman I find 1200 years later is not what I was expecting.

Rose is not my type but my soul yearns for her. Every sign tells me that she is my Deirdre. How do I convince this broken, quiet and unbelieving woman that she is my twice upon a time?

EXCERPT

Centuries ago I was Morgann. Albeit I am neither immortal nor a supernatural creature of any kind, I am now an urban legend. For I am something else.
I am a soul that gained awareness of its existence; a wandering soul inhabiting various bodies throughout their mortal life.
A soul longing to be reunited with its soulmate.
Like the fairytale, you know, “Once upon a time…” And the rest of the story unfolds, sometimes with torments, but always with a happy ending. Only that is not how it turned out for us.
So maybe we should try another story line that would end better this time. Let’s say, “Twice upon a time,” maybe?
Anyway. This is what I am.
Centuries later, this soul eventually ended up in my body. Now I feel I can speak on Morgann’s behalf, for I’m him and he’s me. We’re one.
Fearless and hopeful, when Morgann’s body died, his soul began its journey. His body was no longer of use but his soul had lived on, intact, searching for her frantically. Her? Well, that would be Deirdre, a powerful medicine woman accused of being a witch.
Some witnessed my encounter with Deirdre and what followed, back when I was still Morgann. I, Morgann, a monk working on the now infamous Book of Kells. Witch or medicine woman, I couldn’t care less because right from the start I had that gut feeling she was the one for me, even as I had simply stared at the river of shiny black hair falling down to her back. It was meant to be.
Kismet.
Yes, we were undeniably soulmates. Twist of fate? I have no idea but that was how connected our souls were and still are, somehow.  What was Deirdre doing there that day in the monastery? I didn’t dare ask. After that, I was already too involved to search for more explanation. My fate was sealed and so was hers. When we were introduced, we grasped at once that we were made for one another as long as we lived. Too bad we hadn’t foreseen our time together would be shortened by greedy people. Hopefully she was resourceful and found a way to escape our fate.
Let me tell you about us.
What did we do wrong?
Well, when you’re a monk, there is no such thing as falling in love and breaking the vows of celibacy but I did. When you’re a medicine woman, there is no such thing as engaging in a passionate relationship with a man, and not just any man but a monk.
So the medicine woman was accused of being a witch for her medicine involved plants, charms and casting spells as well. Truth be told, she was a witch. There was no doubt about it.
Morgann was born in Ireland in the 8th century. When exactly? Not sure. Nobody was good at keeping track around that time. For some reason, though, centuries later I had a dream about the encounter that changed everything; it happened in the year 813.
Shameless, Deirdre and I broke all the rules. Deirdre had been paid to write what she knew about strong medicine and spells. I was one of the chosen script monks who wrote the book in calligraphy with her, for years.
That meaningful book didn’t belong to us. It was theirs. So meaningful they ended up referring to it as poisonous when I’d rather call it visionary. Who were they? The sleeping partners; narrow-minded judgmental people who started to get scared of her. Of us. They needed to destroy us. Deirdre didn’t realize their attempt until it was almost too late.
But we had to stop them once we had apprehended their genuine intentions. Their goal was plain and simple, yet we were too blinded by our love to see it right from the start. They were seeking eternal life. But it didn’t work that way. None of them ever figured out how to cast the right spell at the right time on the chosen person.
When it got out of hand, people’s imagination was already at work. At once, word-of-mouth spread the tale that soon became legendary. Why? Well…who could believe in our true fate? A soul that lived on until reunited with its soulmate, come on!
Soon enough, our legend started. Our peculiar story and the supposedly poisonous book were referred to as the Black Angel Book.

Once Upon a Time, a monk fell in love with a healer woman, a witch to be exact.  Their love was forbidden, he was a Monk and had taken vows of celibacy.  They were working on a book of magic together, and evil forces wanted the book for themselves.  To protect their love, and their book, Deirdre cast a spell that Morgann and she would come back until they found each other.
The end of the book would be written on Morgann’s body to protect it.
For centuries Morgann’s soul has come back and inhabited other bodies, searching for Deirdre.  She can’t remember who she was, or what they were, so he has to find her and remind her.   All the while killing and destroying the descendants of the evil ones.
Twice upon a time, Virgil meets Rose, and she’s the one.  He can’t get enough of her, the spell on his body begins to take over and grow, showing him that she’s the one.  But Rose has no memory of what they were or who she was.  Virgil must remind her, help her find her memory.  Virgil struggles with the fear that maybe Rose isn’t really the one either, she isn’t “his type” and he isn’t hers.  But the attraction is there.  Neither one wants to admit they are in love with the other one.
While Virgil is afraid to make a move, and then find out Rose isn’t really Deirdre after all, in comes the knight in shining armor.  Bruce.  Bruce isn’t who he says he is, but he becomes plan B for Rose.   She isn’t really interested in Bruce, but they are compatible.  The man she wants, the man she’s crazy about, the man she loves everything about…  well, that’s Virgil.  But Virgil keeps pushing her away.
Will they be able to find their happily ever after the second time around? Or is their love fated to never be?
This is a good read, a little slow at first.  I was hoping for more of the story to come out, but there is book two for me to read now.

Chandler by Laurelin Paige

A Fixed Trilogy Spinoff Release Date: September 20th, 2016 Genre: Contemporary Romance

  CHANDLER FINAL .jpg

Synopsis:

I'm good in a boardroom, but I’m better in the bedroom. Much better. I can charm the skirt off any woman in one encounter. I'll even give her an orgasm before I put her in a cab. Or three. No more or she’ll start making plans for the future and I'm not into that.
Or I wasn’t until Genevive Fasbender. She's the first woman in five years that I want to spend the whole night with. And she's the first woman who’s told me I'm not what she wants in a lover, even after multiple O’s. She’s brash and bold and stubborn as hell, and she doesn’t believe it’s possible to satisfy her.
But I’m up for the challenge.
And after an incident in my brother’s office closet―a downright dirty incident―I think I’m just the guy to deliver.
Genevive Fasbender will never know what’s coming.

5 star review
This was a new author to me and I cannot believe that I have not read her before. Not having any pre conceived notions about Chandler was perhaps in a way a good thing. I, of course have heard of her other books, however since I have not yet had a chance to read her, this was a good opportunity to dive in.
Chandler is self- confident, dominating and altogether a bit of a player, that is until he meets Genevive Fasbender. From the start Genevive intrigues Chandler, pushing aside his boundaries and challenging them. The fact that she doesn’t think he is what she is looking for only makes him more determined,
I really enjoyed MS. Paige’s writing style; Chandler was well written, thoroughly enjoyable and did I mention the panty melting scenes? The banter between Chandler and Genevieve is at times, laugh out loud and I found myself falling for Chandler more and more.
The chemistry between Chandler and Genevieve is off the charts and I really loved the path these two were on to reach their HEA.
I have no idea why it has taken me so long to read Laurelin Paige, but I am now going to bump her other books up my extremely long list of TBR’s.

5 stars

I am new to Ms. Paige’s work, and didn’t know what to expect.  This story is funny, sexy, suspenseful, just an all-round good read.
Chandler is hilarious, the baby of a dynamic family, struggling with issues of measuring up, and sexier than all get out!!  The conversations he has with himself, and you the reader, were funny and cute.  I caught myself smiling and chuckling several times.
Genny, is the youngest, and a female in dynamic family.  She struggles with identity issues as well, and with wanting to make her presence known to a father and a brother who write her off as a female.  She is very driven and ambitious, and does her best to try to ignore Chandler.  She doesn’t have time for a distraction.
But, she can’t seem to stay away from him!!  Together the two have a smoking passion that practically ignited my kindle.  This is a definite must read!!

Excerpt:

Five minutes later, the valet pulls up with my car. Genevieve raises an eyebrow. “A Bugatti?” I’m so impressed she can name the model that I practically jizz in my pants. “It’s the best.” She shakes her head, and I swear I hear her mutter something about rich men and their toys, but I don’t respond, too occupied with inspecting my car and then passing the attendant the cash I promised him earlier for returning my vehicle in perfect condition. I slide into the driver’s seat, and when I look over at Genevieve as she buckles her seatbelt, a wave of pure, unadulterated lust rolls through me. I’m very aware that I’ve trapped her, that she’s now defenseless to my whims. Not that I’d take advantage, but goddamn, to think that I could… I nearly shiver at my own vile thoughts. Glad she can’t know what I’m thinking, I flash her a smile. “So. Where am I taking you?” “I’m staying at the Park Hyatt on 57th Street.” “Fancy.” The Park Hyatt is one of the nicest luxury hotels in New York. That means this girl has money, which isn’t a bad thing. Just, the swell of my wallet in my back pocket is usually one of my better attributes. If wealth doesn’t attract her, I hope I’m not shit out of luck when it comes to getting an invitation up to her room. Apparently, I’m transparent because she asks, “Not impressed?” “Quite the opposite. I’m worried you won’t have a reason to be impressed with me.” Now I’m the one who can’t believe how honest I’m being. “It’s a valid worry,” she says after a beat, and I can’t tell if she’s teasing or being blunt. Can’t tell if I should prepare for gut-wrenching disappointment or dive into another round of sexy banter. I concentrate on my driving instead, speeding up before slipping expertly into a tight opening in the adjacent lane. I’ll admit I’m showing off. “Smashing,” she says with a tone that vibrates through my body like I’m a tuning fork. Then, abruptly, she laughs, and I turn my head toward her, alarmed at the source of her amusement. “I still can’t believe you drive a Bugatti in the city. I can’t decide if that makes you brilliant or as mad as a bag of ferrets.” “Brilliant, of course.” Though, with her so close, I feel more like I’m going crazy. “What can I say? I like things that are fast.” “Of course you do.” “You don’t?” I raise a questioning brow. “Maybe you don’t understand how awesome fast can be.” I put my foot on the gas and race down the next block to prove my point. The traffic light turns red as I approach the intersection, and I ease the brakes. “See? Fast is fun.” “The problem with fast is it’s over too quickly.” Is that innuendo? Her gaze pierces into me, and the air around us feels tight and charged, and I’m suddenly certain that I will die if I don’t get to taste her tonight. Even if she didn’t mean anything more when she made her statement, I certainly do when I say, “Don’t worry. I know when to take my time.” She exhales, slowly, and I swear I can feel it. As though she’s already in my arms and her breath is grazing every inch of my bare skin. No matter what happens after this, I know she at least feels this…this attraction. Or whatever it is. Her voice is low and sultry when she replies. “You’re not talking about cars anymore. But do you really take your time? I’d guess you bolt the minute you’re finished.” She’s so blunt, so direct, and I don’t know if it’s a her thing or an English thing, but I like it. I also like this conversation we’re having. Because we’re drawing the lines, and that means the potential for tonight is high. So I answer with a nod, making sure she understands that she’s correct in thinking I’ll bolt. Because I will.

Blog Tour & Reviews by Jackie, Alicia & Robin: El Diablo by M Robinson

BLOG TOUR September 6th-20th
EL DIABLO
USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR M. ROBINSON
COVER DESIGN: THE FINAL WRAP
RELEASE DATE: AUGUST 30TH, 2016

I was ruthless.
I was feared.
I had sacrificed. Myself. Her. Everything...
Living in a world where I was worth more dead than alive was a choice. I was a bad man, never claimed to be anything else. I’ve done things I’m not proud of. Seen things that can’t be unseen. I’ve caused pain that I can’t undo.
It was all my choice.
Every decision.
Every order.
Right and wrong never mattered.
Until her.
She was under my protection, until she became my obsession.
But who was going to save her...
From. Me. The devil himself.

Fate brought us together. Destiny destroyed us.

“Go stretch again, cariño,” I ordered in a dominant tone. Nodding to the barre.
“I’m fine,” she stubbornly replied. Shaking her legs and arms out. Getting back into position, looking at me through the mirror.
I cocked my head to the side, arching an eyebrow. She narrowed her eyes at me, but begrudgingly listened. I pressed play, allowing the melody to once again take over. She placed her leg on the lowest barre, making her ass stick out in my direction.
Tempting me.
She closed her eyes, needing to get lost in the music, wanting to push away all the negative thoughts, already feeling discouraged. I stood, taking off my suit jacket. Rolling up the sleeves of my collared shirt as I stepped onto the hardwood floor. I slowly came up behind her, catching her off guard.
She froze, turning around, opening her eyes. Peering up at me through her lashes. “What are you doing?”
I leaned forward against her ear, grinning. “I’m helping you stretch.” Getting down on my knees in front of her.
Her eyes dilated. The feeling of disappointment replaced with nothing but lust. She placed her arms out to the side, resting up against the barre, supporting her weight. I grabbed her ankle, lifting it up in the air, rubbing along her leg as it was fully stretched, before setting it on the lowest barre. Running my other hand up her side, easing her over toward the extended leg. She understood what I was doing, reaching for her ankle, stretching. Standing back up, bringing her arms above her head, I caressed along her leg again, casually turning her torso so her leg was still placed on the barre behind her.
Her breathing hitched as I touched her all over her lower body. My lips softly kissing the inside of her thigh to where she wanted my mouth the most.

OFFICIAL TRAILER FOR EL DIABLO

This was the story I have been waiting for.  I was so excited to read the book about El Diablo, the devil and I have to say this book blew me away .....
How did Alejandro Eduardo Martinez become that man, this book tells you how and why he became the devil. He runs a worldwide mob empire, the law bends for him and men fear him but there is one woman who can see through the bad, but she will be his weakness as well as his salvation.
Lexi has a hard life right from childhood and Alejandro wants to protect her but is it protection from life or protection from him that she needs??
This book has so many secrets and Alejandro is a man you want to hate, but even though you hate his lifestyle, it's hard to hate the man. This story will keep you guessing right to the last chapter and even though The Good O'l Boys come into the book, it can most definitely be read as a standalone.
Fantastic read from M.Robinson.

This is an AWESOME book!!  It had me in it’s grip from the first paragraph.  I wasn’t even half way thru the book, and I knew it was definitely a 5 star book.  I love that it ties into the previous series without telling what the plot is.
There were heart wrenching scenes in the book where I just wanted to weep with them.  There was drama, and action, and lots of steamy sex!  And twists…… just when you think you’re headed in the right direction, there is a sharp twist in the plot.  But trust me she leaves no questions unanswered; she addresses them all. Everything a character does has a reason.

This book has so many twists that you will not see coming at all. I didn't cry as much as I did with the other book I read.

You will not hate Alejandro "El Diablo" Martinez because he will have a spell on you!  He actually ends up making you feel bad for him!! What does that say about me? Your heart is going to break several times for both Alejandro and Lexi!

You’ll experience all the emotions, adrenaline, fear, rage, pain… you’ll be afraid of what might happen next, and you won’t be able to stop reading!  The book has the perfect epilogue.

Are you ready to meet El Diablo?

'They' say the devil you know is always better than the one you don't. Well, what happens when the devil is too hard to get to know? Alex Martinez was groomed by his father to take over the family business and after a tremendous and catastrophic turn of events, Alex surpasses even the power his father held.   There is a famous saying that goes something like this: 'dawn creeps in on little cat feet.'   This saying reminds me of Lexi, the ballerina who comes to Alex in a time of need and just wants to see what ignited the fire in the devil.  Lexi is a ballerina and she is soft and light but a force to be reckoned with.  Like the dawn is to the night.  To me that is Alex and Lexi.

This is a spinoff of the Good Old Boys series by M. Robinson.  It is a stand alone but man, it is good to read Crave Me by the same author either before or after, preferably before but it is by no means mandatory for the story line.  This novel is written by the Queen of Angst and she wields a mighty sword.  I would rate this pretty high on the angst meter.  I didn't cry but my heart clenched and that is pretty darn tough to do.   My warning to you is do not throw your kindle and do not give up on the story (I don't think that is possible) - trust this writer with your heart and you will be well rewarded.

Excerpt:

Owner of the Choice Buy store in Michigan, wizard prince Gabriel Light sees his employee, wolf shifter Emma Singer, fall off a tall ladder. He’s just managed to catch her and set her on her feet when her angry pack alpha shows up.
Bzz-bzzt. A buzz like an angry hornet stung wizard prince Gabriel Light’s ears the moment the predator slunk into the store.
Cap’n Crunch me. Gabriel had magically alarmed the door for just such an event, but why now, when he’d finally gotten a semi-innocent excuse to wrap his arms around this warm bundle of soft, sweet-smelling heaven?
Emma. It felt like he’d been dying to hold her forever. Now, with her in his arms, was the first time in months he could breathe.
But that buzzing alarm told him the approaching beast was male, a wolf shifter, and, from that level of sting, Emma’s alpha. The beast was not going to appreciate seeing her in another man’s arms.
She started trembling, no doubt in response to the alpha’s rampant fight-club stench, a musk even Gabriel could smell. He tried to ease her tension with a joke.
“Hey, Emma. How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh?”
She skewered him with a disbelieving stare, icing his flesh. He’d blundered, she didn’t understand he was trying to comfort her, nobody gets my skewed sense of humor… Then she gulped and said, “Eight? Like, um, eight legs?”
Immediately his world brightened. “Nope. Ten tickles. Get it? Tentacles?”
She managed a tiny laugh, tinkling bells to his ears, and her body relaxed slightly under his arms. “That was such a dad joke.”
He loved that she, of all the people he knew, actually laughed at his jokes. He smiled into her eyes like a besotted fool.
Of course, that was when the he-wolf prowled into view.
Gabriel wondered how far he could get with the wolf by protesting his intentions were honorable. Probably not far. The creature was only barely in human form.
The wolfman was medium height but had a face like a dented shovel and a body like a trash compactor, his muscles-on-muscles popping in a stringy T-shirt that barely qualified past no-shirt-no-shoes-no-service.
Worse, with the hair sprouting everywhere, nose elongating like a snout, and lengthening canines, this alpha was dangerously pissed.
Hard to reason with a pissed-off wolf. They tended to bite first then ask questions…never.
Yet instead of releasing Emma, Gabriel’s hand dropped from her clenched jaw to open protectively on her back.
“The fuck?” the wolfman snarled.
Something inside Gabriel snarled right back.

This is a great paranormal romance, which is also filled with action and mystery.  Emma Singer is a shifter who needs to escape from her alpha, who plans on adding her to his harem.  Gabriel Light rescues her, and unbeknownst to her, he’s a wizard prince.
Emma’s character is quirky.  She is embarrassed by her talent, has a crush on her boss, has a strong sense of right and wrong, and is just a loveable character.
Gabriel is a wizard, but he masks his power and his scent so he isn’t suspected as being a wizard.  He’s funny, warm, strong, and intelligent.  .

The couple have a lot of adversaries. Emma’s alpha, Bruce, who is basically evil; her brother Elroy who is unloving, and Gabriel’s longtime nemesis, Ryder.  Each one of these men provide numerous obstacles for the couple to overcome.
It was a creative plot with lots of twists.  This is the first book in the Pull of the Moon series that I read. Many of the characters from book one, HEART MATES, are in this story, including Gabriel’s sister and heroine of that book, Sophia Blue and wolf shifter Noah Blackwood. I had no problem following this story, but, I wish I would have read the first book. There are some things that happen in this novel that tied in with book one. All in all, it’s a very good book, and definitely one to add to your must read list.
