The New York Times bestselling hockey series featuring the Carolina Cold Fury continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.
Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.
Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

5 Star Review
The Cold Fury Series is one of my favorite's and added to that I'm also a sucker for second chance romance so this book was always going to be on my wish list.
It was seven years ago when Hawke lost the girl he loved, she gave him no reason for the break up but it meant he could do what he did best play hockey without any distractions. Imagine the shock when he sees her standing in his new club Cold Fury's locker room. Vale Campbell is Cold Fury's athletic trainer and she was the one that walked away from Hawke all those years ago .....
Hawke needs to prove his playboy days are behind him and Vale needs to believe him.
Things are never going to be easy for these two but fate has a way of putting things right and even though the ice is cold it's starting to get hot in the locker room. Can Hawke and Vale re kindle the love they felt as teenagers ........
I fell for Hawke and his alpha ways and I rooted for him through out the book to get his HEA...
I loved that we got glimpses of how Alex, Garrett, Zack and Ryker are doing and I'm looking forward to more from the Cold Fury Hockey Team
Hawke is book 5 in the series but it can be read as a standalone.
I was given this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

4.5 star
This is book 5 in the series and another winner for Sawyer Bennett in my humble opinion.
Although a stand-alone, I would recommend that you read them in order of release.
I love second chance romances. The one that got away…it brings to mind so many missed opportunities and regrets.
Hawke Therrien is a good time guy, who plays fast and lives hard; never getting more than casually involved. Betrayed and hurt in his youth, he has turned his pain into the pursuit of a good time.
Vale Campbell broke Hawke’s heart when she walked away from him and their relationship. It was either that or potentially be destroyed.
When fates brings Vale to the Cold Fury Hocket team to work, Hawke is blindsided. He had no idea that she would be working with the team. Although he instantly knows her, he is shocked by how much she has changed from the girl he was once in love with.
Sawyer Bennett writes an exceedingly emotional story, I could feel their pain. Can Hawke ever forgive Vale and open himself up to the chance of a re-kindled love? Will Vale trust that Hawke can change his ways?
It is obvious to all those around that these two have a deep connection, one that has been buried that is struggling to find purchase in the present.
I really loved Hawke, but at times I was annoyed by Vale, all she had to do years ago was speak up and tell Hawke her concerns, instead she ripped his heart out. Not sure that I would have forgiven her.
The rekindling of their love and their struggles to re connect and trust each other was difficult to read at times, but oh so worthwhile in the end.
This series is to me a family and I loved catching up on the previous couples and seeing what is happening in their lives. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley.

I am not familiar with any of the previous Cold Fury books by Sawyer Bennett. Which didn’t prove to be a handicap while reading this book. It is a good stand-alone book on its own.
This is a second chance love story, and if you want to get right down to brass tacks, it’s really a third chance love story. Vale and Hawke were deeply in love, wild, and reckless in their youth. Hawke is getting ready to leave for his big hockey break, and Vale suddenly cuts him out of her life with no warning or reasons. Seven years later, forced to move in with her father to care for him during a life threatening illness, she takes a job with the Cold Fury, and is forced to come face to face with Hawke. Unresolved feelings surface, and they attempt to navigate the waters of the second chance at love they now have. They end up breaking up AGAIN… and yes, they do have a third chance at love.
Almost immediately I had guessed the big dark secret that Vale had been hiding, which was the reason she cut him out of her life. The problem with the story is she is harboring anger at him for what happened, and he had no clue of the part he had played. Unfair?? Yes… but sadly, sometimes that’s just how people’s emotions and faulty thinking make a big mess of things. However, I thought it was a little drawn out to keep punishing Hawke for things he didn’t know about. By the time she reveals the secret to him, you’re thinking to yourself…. Geez, about time.
Half way through the book I was wondering when the plot would get juicy and kick in. There were moments where I felt intense sympathy for the characters, and other moments where I was just completely frustrated by the fact they were both completely stubborn and wrapped in their own agendas.
But the sign of a good author is the ability to make you feel things as you’re reading. All in all, it was a decent story. I’m not a huge sports person, but I was able to follow the hockey jargon without feeling completely lost. I think it would be worth my time to go back and read books 1-4 just so I have them all under my belt.
I did like the happy ending, and the surprise news at the end. It was a sweet romantic way to end the book.
I would recommend this to others to read.
