Im honestly blown away with all the feels this story drew out of me. I could sense the way the characters were feeling and really just wanted to give them both a big hug.
I thought Genevieve was quite the popstar, that she has to put on this persona for those that admire her. Who does she really see in herself?
When she meets Oliver, this hockey player, needless to say he sees her for who she really is. They both have their own particular struggles and need someone to trust that they can lean on. Can they be that for each other? In all the ways that count? Doesn’t everyone deserve that special person? Absolutely!
In certain parts I was on tender hooks, hoping, anticipating and chomping at the bit at a positive outcome. I was hooked!
Ms Santos has woven a beautiful but also poignant tale where the characters have real life struggles. The inspirational words written and the way the storyline goes is nothing short of wonderful.
Breaking South is a definite must read!
This beautiful story takes these characters on emotional journey of self discovery as they work their way through all of the ups and downs that ultimately bring them the lives that make them happy.
Oliver and Genevieve are both struggling in their careers but for different reasons. Oliver is trying to get back after a physical injury but Genevieve is battling a deep emotional conflict between who she is expected to be and who she wants to be. From the outside, the world sees that all is well, but on her inside a storm is brewing. It takes one man, Oliver, to give her the strength for her to see herself for who she really is and open her heart to changing the projection of her future.
I love this quote from Oliver:
“We’re both on the same journey, Genevieve. The difference is I’m taking the pain for something I want. After the fall, you’re going to face a shitstorm of a climb. Would you rather it be for a prize that’s worth it?”
