Publication date: April 23rd 2020
Genres: Adult, Thriller
Rachel Ford-Talbot has nothing to do with her family or their pharmaceutical business. And she likes it that way. As one of four partners who own an internationally renowned security business, Rachel prefers to leave her past, with all its secrets, deeply buried.
But when a series of thefts reveal that the family business is being targeted for industrial espionage, her father begs Rachel to investigate. His illness makes it hard for her to refuse, but Rachel wonders if he truly understands what he’s unleashing on his company. Because she isn’t the same bright-eyed graduate that walked through their doors years earlier. Now, she’s strong, powerful, and somewhat terrifying. A woman who doesn’t suffer fools lightly and who is afraid of nothing.
She also isn’t alone.
This time, she has the might and expertise of Benson Security at her back. And an ex-CIA agent at her side—because Michael “Harvard” Carter has appointed himself her bodyguard for the duration. Even though Rachel doesn’t need, or want, the annoyingly sexy man’s help. But while the world sees a first-class bitch when they look at her, Michael sees only someone who intrigues him. Which makes him the biggest threat of all.
***This is a standalone novel. You don’t have to have read any of my other books to enjoy it.***

Janet Elizabeth Henderson is  a new author to me and I have no idea why I have not come across her before. This book reeled me in and I was hooked from the first to the last chapter. A slightly dark, romantic comedy with a touch of suspense that ticked the boxes.

Although the book starts off with a confronting scene, it did not set the tone for the book. I will say that the author did a credible job and ensured that it was handled with respect and not sensationalized.

Rachel Ford-Talbot is a tough as nails woman who has overcome a terrifying past to become a partner and leader at Benson Security. She is strong, clever and is not afraid to say it like it is. She also has nothing to do with her family or the family business.

However when her sick father asks for her help, she is drawn back in to investigate along with ex-CIA agent Michael “Harvard” Carter who has decided that he will be her bodyguard.

Harvard is the perfect man for Rachel. He is protective , swoon worthy and most definitely alpha. The chemistry between them burns up the pages with it’s intensity.

Ms. Henderson wrote a strongly written story that kept me guessing until the end and I was definitely surprised. It handled difficult subjects whilst also showcasing comedic moments that had me laughing.

The secondary characters were just as captivating and has whetted my appetite to go back and read the other books in the series as soon as time permits.

Rich is the perfect blend of romantic comedy and romantic suspense!

This book kept a smile on my face nearly all the way through and definitely kept me guessing.

Rachel Ford-Talbot was brought up by her loving family who own a pharmaceutical company and was next in line to become the CEO after her father retired. Except one evening changed the course of her life and she started running a security firm instead.

Now, someone is trying to steal from her family's company and her father hires Rachel's firm to find the culprit. Except as soon as she steps foot back in her family's business her past comes back to haunt her.

The banter between Rachel and Michael (AKA Harvard) is fantastic. I loved Rachel's wit and how she always seems stuck-up but is just a really strong willed woman. She only let her vulnerable side show to those she's closest to. I also love that even though she was brought up in an affluent family most of her family doesn't blink an eye when she tells them that she's fake engaged to an African American man.

The author did an amazing job of incorporating the dramas that are associated with interracial couples in today's society into the story line.

I loved this book from start to finish! I highly recommend it and can't wait to read what happens next.
